OK Mike, you are operating with the Gemini image. That is fine. In communications setup, untick the dhcp box and have the IP fixed at 192.168.1.4

That should connect ok. To try it out, open an internet browser and enter http://192.168.1.4 in the address bar. You should get a box asking you for the login and password. Enter root in the login box and dreambox in the password box. That should give you a window showing the Dreambox.

Hi again Jim, thx again, that has all worked just fine. I now want to upload the latest image plus any add ons that you recommend, when I try internet update I get error message server replied 404 not found

Hi Jim, that has worked , thanks for that. Can you recommend a cam, emu etc based on your experience ? and also where to locate for download via my lan connection. I am still trawling the manual and threads on various boards but have about as much proficiency in techno-speak as I have in Bulgarian - and I live here !
One further question, I will be getting a 7025 here next month, is that box easier to set up or harder ? I bought the 500 for starters thinking it would be the simplest to set up & operate, I hope I got that wrong too !!
I won't give up on it though, all you experienced Dreamers can't all be wrong

By the way, I went on that site from the PC and get a similar message. Have you tried registering with that site to see if something actually exists there?

Mike, in the Gemini downloads, you have two option. The Gemini site and any site that you add yourself. To get to either, you need the Dreambox directly connected to the internet.

Without an internet connection, you need to download the .tar.gz files to your pc and then ftp them to /tmp on the dreambox. You then select manual install from the Dreambox menu and the programmes with be installed.

You lucky b*gger, I wish I was getting a 7025 it will be a whole new experience. You must get yourself a router and connect to the internet. The basic principles are the same as the 500 but you will have so many more options. It will be like having a grand piano rather than a mouth organ. You will also be able to connect the 500 and the 7025 via lan and read any card from one to the other. Ideal for different rooms or even houses.

Hi Jim,

I am connected to internet by router / lan and I can get into the box from my computer, my trouble is that I don't know what I am doing with any of it !! I am currently trying to update my gemini image to ver 4.0 and also to install a cam but when I go for software upgrade I get error: server replied 404 not found ( I think I mentioned this before ) the support site in my system info is i-have-a-db etc and it is this connection that is failing. Is it possible to change this default to another site ( enigma perhaps ) or can you give me help with this error.
You are right about being lucky mate, I have spent a good bit of my retirement money on this lot, more to be spent soon on bigger dish and motor etc, just wish I knew what I was doing.

404 is an internet error when a website is not found. It may have been offline for some reason. The latest image is the 4.2 just released. I am trying it out now on my 7000 and it is very stable and does everthing it says on the tin so far.

The problem with the 500 is the lack of useable memory. Since everything is on flash memory, I am not sure if you can install a new image without deleting the original image first. Dreamup via the serial port is the preferred option and I dont know if it is possible to do an image change via lan. Gemini may just over-write particular files when they update in which case that can be done direct from their website.

The latest Gemini 4.2 maxvar image can be downloaded from there and the following warning is given:

"MaxVar Image!
Only running in flash (it has been only tested that way). Please do only use DreamUp and don´t forget the flash erase. Do not use other tools like FW or DCC."

I'm still having trouble getting connected to my DB through my pc with no router. I used a crossover cable hooked directly to my DB. Went to set the ip . 192.168.0.24 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. my pc ip is ***.***.***.*** gateway on my pc is 255.255.0.0 DHCP not checked.tried it both ways. I'm running xp home. do i need to change anything else on my com[puter.

Your PC is not the IP that you have listed. That address is your internet wan address so I have blanked it out for now.

Your lan address for your pc will be in the range 192.168.?.?
