Hi Jim, while we wait for Hardnocks maybe you can help me out, my new 500s arrived here in Bulgaria yesterday and I am still trying to set it up, my set up here is fixed dish with dual lnb looking at Hotbird 13e & Eutelsat ( not sure of position but obviously close to Hotbird ) I cannot work out how to get into the drop down menu to configure the two sats via DisEqC A/B and so all I am getting so far is Hotbird. I am going croos eyed looking at the manual but cannot find the answer anywhere. Thx for any help. I am sure there will be more questions later as I am a COMPLETE novice.

i bought a 500 2 1/2 years ago but switched to coolsat . but now i want to come back to dreambox. I have programed them in the past but need a little refreasher course. What image is there out there to use.For beginners what emu? what image. what files do i need to put on the dreambox. do all the new images autoroll. Do yoiu still change the 755

Ok Hardknocks, the images I would recommend are the Gemini max var and the Nabilosat max var in no particular order. Both can be downloaded direct from Dreambox World.

Once installed, the emus can be automatically downloaded if your box is connected to the internet. The automatic installation will take care of the permissions for you.

If you are not connected to the internet then you will have to ftp the files to the Dreambox and do 755 to the /var/bin and the /var/script files Dont get confused, the files in var/script are not actually script files, they are interpreted programme files.

If you install the Satans updates in var/tuxbox/plugins, key updates are only a button press away. That is if your DB is internet connected.

could you send me a linkk to the download section i seem to be having trouble finding the Gemini max var. no i'm not got my dreambox connected to the internet. I use the internet a work to get all my fixes.

Hi again Jim,

I am having great problems in setting up my 500 despite reading the manual over & over again. I have got the box to locate on the 2 sats that my fixed dish can see, it has downloaded hundreds of services, mostly arabic, italian etc but is not opening most of them for viewing. I think from watching the forum that I have to upload different software for this to happen. I have dreamup on my laptop and have a router that will connect the box to the net but I am struggling with the next bit, I can't get my laptop to connect to the box. Can you offer any tips on where I am going wrong at this stage and also tell me how I go about uploading the images, emus etc that you mentioned in your post to Hardknocks, do they get imported to a temp file on my computer or directly to the box. Sorry to all of you that have mastered the art but this is doing my head in here !
