Talking Dream Box Tools/Utils

I keep reading posts which refer to tools and Utils for Dreambox 7020 But I cannot find them anywhere, I click on what I assume to be it then I get a post that describes what it does etc But I cannot actually find the link to download it, I hope somebody can help me as I have just purchased a 7020 and am desperately wanting to learn about it.

There are several tools that you can download from Dreambox-World and when you have increased your post count, from us.

However, all you need are FlashFXP or a similar FTP programme, FlashWizard Pro 6.3 and Windoze dos terminal. There is a later beta FlashWizard but let others test beta progs until you are conversant with them.

I assume you have a good solid image in flash memory on the 7020 and I strongly recommend that you get youself a usb memory stick (512 MB) is ok, and experiment putting one or more images on the usb stick using Flashwizard and multiboot so that you dont muck up the base image whilst you play.

Using FlashFXP you can examine the file structures and get to know how the Dreambox works. You dont need any programming knowledge, you just have to be nosey like me.

Hi.

I am very new at this. Bought the Dreambox 7020-s about 18 months ago, with a motorised system. Became disappointed that satellite stations kept disappearing, so gave up before even trying. Seen reviews on the Dreambox 7020-s about how you can "customise" it, but never thought much of it. Only today decided to try out a few things.

I have downloaded the two tools suggested (Flashwizard 6.3 and FlashXFP), together with the latest satellites.xml file, but really need an updated image. Current image I am using is Gemini 2.95 (July 2007), which is probably the last time I had it updated from the shop I bought the system from.

I noticed a link to the downloads area on another thread on this site:

downloads...

However, I cannot seem to find any files for the 7020, although there is a Gemini 4.2 for the 7000. Please can someone help me in finding the location of the latest Gemini, or even another (preferred image) for the 7020?

Thank you.

Hi Jimdefruit,

Thank you very much for your advice. I have managed to find the image. I shall try and install it. This is going to be my first attempt, and have decided to into a fresh USB key.

I shall try it over the weekend at some time. I'll let you know how I get on. Thank you very much indeed.

Hi,

I have managed to get all the files necessary. Before I upload the new satellites.xml file to the Dreambox, is there anything I need to do with the file? There is a mention of localization, but I am unsure as to what the context of the localization setting applies to - is it do define my geographical location, or is it just for language used when switching satellite stations and for general use menus?

Also, there is a terrestrial.xml file from the Dreambox image. Do I need to (or is it beneficial in any way for me to) upload the latest version of this file as well?

Any advice you can give me is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Jimdefruit,

Thank you once again for your valuable advice.

Regarding updating the flash image, I tried to backup the existing one (DM7020 FlashImage 2.6.9), but I got an error stating that the feature is not (yet) available on the 7020. I am using FlashWizardPro 6.3. I really do not want to update the image on the flash memory without backing up what I currently have.

Can I use any image I would otherwise install on the USB disc in multiboot to install on the flash (i.e. Gemini 4.50/DarkstarII/PB-Enigma/etc...)? Or does it have to be a specific type (e.g. DM7020 FlashImage), in which case can you please tell me what the current version of DM7020 FlashImage I should download?

Also, if I use multiboot from the USB, does that mean that each image keeps its own version of the satellite.xml file, or does it all get read from a central location, as determined by whichever image has been installed in the flash memory area?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Jimdefruit,

Sorry - I have been busy with other things, so I had to leave this for a while. The last time I was looking at this, I was having difficulty getting a good image for the 7020 - I tried to download from Dreambox.IT web site, but I am not sure I trust the source. Would you say that all images are the same (i.e. is there a variation of the gemini-450-dm7020.zip file depending upon the geographical location, or web site you download)? I am sure that the answer is going to be no, but I have to ask for my piece of mind.

Thank you.

Generally, a Gemini image is the same from all sources. However, it is always best to download from a reliable source. The different images like Nabilosat dark star, PLi, EDG-Nemesis all have their good and bad points and it is worth experimenting to see which you pesonally prefer. There are some images that are just copies of others with a few changes and a name change.

I either get images from the image coders own websites or from Dreambox_world.

My preference for Enigma1 images is Nabilosat Darkstar2. For the 7020, you can put a good image on Flash and have extra images on a usb memory stick. For fast checking of images, you can use 7000 images on the usb stick but you must have a 7020 image on flash.
