Default Freeview boxes with hdmi connection

Has anybody got or tried one of these boxes
I know it wont change it to HD but does it really improve the picture as its supposed to upscale to 1080i
reason i ask is ive got a 37" lcd connected to the cable box and the picture can only be descibed as *****.I wasnt expecting a great picture but i also wasnt expecting one quite so ***** lol

Cheers

Can't say about the hdmi connection but you might find if you connect the cable box to scart1/av1 on the back of your tv then select RGB on the cable box if you have that facility. This can often crisp up the picture.
