Reading an old thread it seems like it may not be necessary to get the cable people to make my house ''digital''
The low-down. I have an old n-t-l thing going into the wall downstairs and upstairs. The computer is in my room where i have v-i-r-g-i-n BB through an ntl grey box. My primary aim is to get a digital box to watch channels in my room. I also have a few analouge boxes downstairs. What is my Best option? I also pay £40 for standard shitty analouge package, the phone and the BB which is over the odds I know, but i dont know the best way to go about things. I was also interested in the idea of FASTER bb, but i only have the one computer and n-t-l modem in my house... I look forward to your replies lol |

You could split the BB signal in your room and connect a TV box to that.
With your package, you should qualify for the "free" digital TV option. If you have that, get them to install it into your room, you won't then need to buy a splitter. Then move the "free" box elsewhere.

Yeah cheers. I think i may start with the first option.
Well i pay the basic package, so I would need to continue paying the basic digital package I guess. The main issue with them installing it downstairs, is that the analouge feed would be no more would it not? And i have 2 of those boxes downstairs.....with a few channels on you see. The folks arent too arsed about getting more channels downstairs at the mo, and besides if they disabled the analouge feed, that would mean buying 3 digi boxes!! around £300! when ive got a few channels on my old boxes. thanks for your reply btw EDIT: I have got a big white cable coming from downstairs, that allows me to watch the same channel thats on the analouge box downstairs if i plug that in2 my TV. How different this is to a ''splitter'' i dont know... Last edited by TVCOHL; 17-12-07 at 12:40 AM. |

The analogue, Digital and Broadband all comes down the same cable at the same time. Until analogue is switched off by the cable company, you will still get Analogue even if you have a digital box from Virgin.
The white cable will be from the output of your downstairs box. You need to split the cable feed before the Modem or TV box.

They would switch off the analogue box you subscribe too, but not the analogue feed into the house. A Chipped analogue box would still work

Talking about this with my dad, he is adamant this is not the case. He says what would happen is, they would turn the feed off outside in the street and that neither of the other boxes would be able to tap into the feed anymore and function properlly.
The broadband feed coming into the house is a seperate entity |

If you check the brown box on your outside wall, you will see there are only 2 cables coming into it. The phone cable and the co-ax which carries the BB and TV signal. If you don't believe me, unplug the co-ax from your Cable Modem and plug it into your TV or Analogue box - you will still get a picture.

As lincsat says, they dont switch anything off, its all there ALL the time. Basicly you get everything or nothing!
The way they switch you telly packages off and on ect, is to do with encryption and its all done in your STB! ![]() What we are trying to say is that its all there, you just need the right equiptment at your end to access it! But if you cant understand this, then maybe going down the eurovox route might get a bit much when it comes to firmware updates ect.
