For a 10mm bolt I drill a 10mm hole and wiggle the drill around a bit. A few gentle taps with a hammer sort any remaining tightness out!

Thanks for all the replies. Just to be clear...

Sleeve anchors are the way to go, definitely after seeing those rogue photos. 10mm will do the job fine (10mm being the overall diameter of the sleeve, the screw thread being smaller, probably 6-8mm). How long should i get, 40 or 60mm?
