Default Which 37"/40" LCD TV?

I am looking to purchase a 37 or 40" LCD TV, HD ready with Freeview under £600. Can anyone reccommend a TV matching these criteria. Also interested in any models to be avoided.
Thanks.

Ok, thanks for that :-). After much research I've decided if I go for LCD it will be a Samsung LE37R87BDX. However, at a little more expense I'm also considering a plasma Panasonic TH37PX70. It will probably only be used for watching standard digital tv, mostly sport.
LCD or Plasma? Any advice welcome, thanks.

BothyBhoy, I have had a panny 42PX70 for nearly a year now and it has been absolutely superb. I would always strongly recommend that you look at the panels you are intersted in and get to see them showing normal SD moving pictures from a sky box or similar. Only you can decide by looking at them.

Most shops will show the panels with inputs that are best for the panel. ie LCDs are generally showing cartoons or HD and they look great. Put a sky SD picture on them and they look awful. Not all but most.

Dont listen to what the salesmen say unless you want a good laugh.

Thanks Jim. I was leaning towards the plasma 37PX70 with stand at £750 from Dixons. However after doing a few measurements in the living room (before I read your post) I think I'll go for the 42PX70 with stand for £800, also from Dixons.

Anyone got one of these Samsungs?

SAMSUNG LE40M86BD 40" HD Ready 1080p digital LCD TV.

I am considering it.

£759 in Dixons, £999 in Currys

Contrast ratio 15000:1, the highest for that price. Is the contrast ratio important?

42" Panasonic plasma with stand was delivered this morning. Have set it up and it's looking good. Ended up buying from Empire Direct for £910 wit 3 year warranty. Seems to be discontinued with Dixons. Saw this tv and stand in Comet the other day - £1100 with 1 year warranty!!!

Good choice BothyBhoy.

I would recommend that you turn off the Dynamic picture setting to Normal and keep the contrast and Brightness settings at about 50% for the first couple of hundred hours.

You will be amazed at how the picture improves as it gets some use.
