Probably in the wrong place, but my modem has an ethernet socket and i have the ethernet cable.. Trouble is my pc does not have an ethernet port. Is there something SMALL and CHEAP like an adaptor that allows me to connect via ethernet. Also does it REALLY make any difference? Will my bb connection be much faster?

Ive just seen this post, you can use a usb connection cable if there is one on your modem, (you might need the drivers for this) or as mentioned purchase a ethernet card hope this helps.
PS..Most times you are supplied with a installation CD when you purchase a modem, and the drivers are on that if needed.. Last edited by Saterlite.uk; 27-12-07 at 10:43 PM. |

If you dont like the thought of opening your case you can always get a USB to Ethernet Adapter.
Amazon.co.uk: USB to LAN ETHERNET NETWORK RJ45 ADAPTER: Electronics & Photo Just plug this into a USB port on the front or back of your PC, Laptop etc and you should be good to go. Hope this helps. |

Well using ethernet it reccomended by alot of ISP's thats why there supplying modems with Ethernet ports on them as well as USB.
USB has alot of resources taken from the computer ive heard or something similiar. and Ethernet runs independantly. Hope this helps. |

Its like alexhodge said resources taken from the computer,if your external modem has a seperate power source I would not worry to much about this, but on the other hand if youve used all your usb ports and the onboard ones then you might get around 5% less performance from your external modem broadband, lets say you have a 1mb connection 5% is quite a lot.
