Default Which reciever to buy, and where from...?

Hi, I'm looking to replace a reciever that my Gran had, as it seems to have completely broken. The Satellite is all set-up, and was previously using a receiver (Branded as Manhattan), which controlled everything.

I'm firstly wondering, with only one input to their original box, and a motorised dish, do they have any kind of special set-up? Or is that standard for motorised systems?

Secondly, looking around, it seems like the Technomate 1500ci is the way to go, but what's the difference with the following two?

_http://www.alsatoffers.com/enter/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.f lypage&product_id=118&category_id=7&manufacturer_i d=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26&vmcchk=1&Itemi d=26
and

Also, has anyone dealt with Alsat, are they reputable? Or should I be looking to buy somewhere else for better value/reliability?

Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks,
Daz.

Don`t know how much you want to spend on the thing. I just bought tm5400CI+USB
from one of our fellow forumers (southernsatellite)for inside £100 inc delivery.Very helpfull, superfast (1day) secure delivery and a special price too (think he still has two left) Great receiver with billion of options, each of which very handy yet so simple to master that even a village idiot like me managed to get it set up without a problem. Think you can get a good offer on the complete motorised system from them as well. Have a look in the classifieds section of the forum for the best offers from this and other forumers.
As for Alsat... well, I wouldn`t be watching what I`m watching now if it wasn`t for their support, support those who support us..

Two weeks ago I bought a complete system from Southernsatellite after a recommendation on this forum. Fast delivery, and very competitive price. I got the Technomate 5400 Ci+ It's the same as the 1500 but with pvr capabilities through a usb connection.

Just to confirm here, the dishes motor control, as well as all the audio visual data, is controlled through the single cable that goes to the receiver, is that correct?

I just want to make sure they have a standard set-up, as I can't find info on their current box anywhere.

thanks!
Daz.

Yes thats correct Daz, assuming it's a DiSEqC motor and receiver (which the vast majority are)

Ok, thanks Mship.

Can anyone tell me the difference with the two products I posted then?

Cheers,
Daz.

There is no difference as the product is the same.
However they are two different offers/deals. With one you get a LNB.
I notice that the adverts say "usually ships in 7 days." Southernsatellite who sponsor this forum dispatched my Technomate the day after I ordered it and have very competitive pricing.

There is no sponsorship deal between southernsatellite and Techwatch.

However to clarify, Southernsatellite and our other trade member Affordable products are here with the blessing of Techwatch Administration, with the aim of mutual benefit to all parties.

"I notice that the adverts say "usually ships in 7 days."

This is a disclaimer to cover me if an item gets lost in the post! 90% of items are delivered within 48 hours, the remaining 10% are items that have to come from Germany where it does take around 7 days.

Hope this clarifies things.

if your motorised dish uses 4 core cable then you will need a vbox to interface with the new receiver
