Hello Ant.I don't know where Torsas By is.But using stockholm as an example.Looking at satsig .net.the astra satellite would be at'162.4 magnetic compass.elevation 22.1.polarisation 6.o'.But I think,knowing me I could be wrong.

@ Pontiend,

Its at the bottom part of Sweden, quite a way south of Stockholm.
The elevation for 19.2E for there is about 25 degrees , I checked yesterday on satlex.de.

@Ant,

In the first picture it looks like you are too close to the tree. One way to tell is get an inclinometer, or a spirit level withan adjustable bubble to measure the angle. The second picture looks better. You can also calculate the angle where angle = inverseTan ( height/distance) where height is from the bottom of the dish to the top of the tree.

Actually, though, a small pole the other side of that tree doesn't look too bad an idea. An 8ft scaffold pole smacked into the ground should do the job for a non-motorised setup. Or a nicely concreted in one, set perfectly vertical, if you do intend to motorise.

Once again thanks guys, nice to know people are trying to help me.

Yes you are right Robbo, I live about 35 kilometres southish from a town called Växjö, in the middle of bl**dy nowhere actually!!!!

I will put the dish on the gable end of the house (pic 2) tomorrow and see what happens, where I took that pic from is about where the dish will go, if not I will have to wait until after christmas as the wife has the car (in Berlin) and I don't think they would appreciate it if I got on a bus with an 8 foot pole!!!

You might even be able to plonk it on the ground, the other side of the tree. Here is a temporary mount I made for my dish, used it for about 6 months:-

Just weighted it down with a bag o' sand and some bricks and stuff.

I kid you not ant.There are 36 holes in the front of my house.From me moving my dish around to find the satellites that I wanted.I told my very worried wife that it helped the ventilation.So if you can stick a pole in the ground with a good view go for it.But it sounds like you may need a very big hammer drill to dig the hole.'I can't spell pnewmatic'.ray

Thanks guys for the help, I know its a bit late but God Jul!! (Merry Christmas!!)

I put the dish at the end of the extension but the signal was non existant, evan put it on the other side but didn't get a signal at all!! I now have 30 holes all over the house (and its a typical Swedish house....wooden!) and her indoors dosen't know yet, I am going to tell her the same as you pontiend

When I first tried to setup my dish I had it on the ground and evan though I didn't get a tv station the signal was strong AND it showed the time when you flicked through the channels, I have'nt been able to get the time on the display since (evan though I have had a strong signal) so I am going to try it on the ground again, I also used a wooden pole but have since brought a 1.5 metre metal 1 so I am thinking of changing back to that too. I desperately need to do this, I want to watch English TV, Swedish TV is, well, c**p!! Don't mean to offend any Swedes on here either!!

God I hope its not woodworm pontiend!!!

Still no joy, I have just brought another LNB and when I get home I will try that. Also had a word with the people in Conrad (big electrical shop in Berlin where the system was brought from) and they said I would'nt be able to get Eurobird with that receiver, only the 5 birds that are in the list. I will try and get Astra then when I have sussed that update my system to something better so I can get Eurobird. Might evan look at a motorised system
