Default Looking For Help Please!, SILVERCREST SL65 (s/w =jun 2005)

Hi Guys,

I would really apreciate some help. ive been from forum to forum reading up on this receiver and seen that there are P**ches to get the receiver to open D +. Im more than happy to attempt doing this, but im completely confused to what model, firmware etc...
If anyone out there could offer me any insight into this, it would be greatly apreciated.

1st) ITS A SILVERCREST SL65 (230v version), it has a serial port on the back and inside has a 20pin JTAG connector.

2nd) H/W version = 20.9
S/W Version = AAT6158A
Date = Jun 08 2005
Time = 15.57.04 (havent updated it ... never)

I Imagine that someone out there would know what version of the firmware i need. Im under the impression i also need BMI soft key to be able to fiddle around with (certain legal numbers) but i havent got this on the box and would like to install it.. once again... not sure what version for what firmware. Also seeing as it has both serial and JTAg, would also like to know via what port would i do this update?
Please guys, any advice would really be great.

Many Thanks in advance. Dani

D+ is no longer open - they went over to the secure Nagra 3 encryption a few weeks ago!

Theres a dedicated comag / silvercrest forum where you may find more help. Whatever files are available files are on there - although you need to register to download them

You'll need to open the box to see what chips you have inside. It's not worth taking a chance on it being the same as other people's because the chipsets vary. Remove the cover and you should see a chip with a shiny metal plate stuck on it. Carefully lift it off, using something not too sharp to lever up the edge of the plate. It's not stuck too tightly. Then gently scrape off the heatsink compound to see what it says on the Chip. It will likely be some form of Ali chip. If it is you need to see if it is B1 E1 or whatever. Also make a note of what's written on the other two chips nearby in case you ever need to reflash it via Jtag. There are no heatsinks on these. When you've finished, get some heatsink compound from a computer store (Maplin in the UK is a useful place), flatten the metal plate and apply the compound, then replace the plate. It doesn't really set but holds it in place. (Or you can get some stick on memory chip heatsinks and stick a couple of these on side by side. As they are finned they should work a bit better).

Now you know the chipset you can look for the right firmware to flash it with. You should be able to do it via the serial port if there is firmware available for your chip.

Best wishes

if its 2005 20 pin it wont be ali chip, the ali chip did not start untill 2006
SL65-M29W160EB-Full_dump_w_patch_Robotex_22-9-07.zip is the latest for the 20 pin
you can find file on dvb upload, but it doesnt open much. these 20 pin models are a bit dated now

Hi Guys,

Just to thank u all for your help.
gonna have a go at opening it and double checking what chip it has.. and afterwards.. gonna try and update the fw. Seeing as i wont be too upset if i F*** it up completely, it wont matter too much.

Once again Thanks guys
