Couple of questions to the experts from a just getting started rookie.

My STB has a Conax embedded card slot. Can I change this slot to read other type cards?

Have been reading some web pages on softcams/patching.

Do I understand this right that in order to softcam/patch my stb, initially I have to download the TM Loader files and SW files to my PC then transfer these to my 5300D by null-modem cable. Subsequent updates of software can then be transferred using the USB memory key.?

Is it not possible to do all this by just putting the loader and software files onto the USB key and transferring it from the PC to the STB?
Sorry but I am not very clear about this.

Hi althom40,

Welcome to the forum,

I think you will find that the card reader is multicrypt, it may need patching however to make this so.

As for patching via the USB, yes you should be able to do it straight off the the USB Key, but if it doesn't work, then download the latest software for your box from the TM website and load that with the cable. From then on you should be able to use the USB.

If using USB, you won't need the loader software.

Thanks robbo71. The TM website says TM 5000 series loader latest dated 26/10.
The SW latest is vers. 1.07 and I have vers 1.03.
You say I dont need the loader if I intend to just do the transfers via USB?
Can I just update the SW via USB and forget the loader?
What happens if I patch? Do I not need a loader for that?
Are the TM and Darkman loaders the same?

Still trying to get my head around this before I experiment. Sorry.
