I am total sick of anything digital, it never works properly.
Lets take satellite first, compared to analogue it is unreliable and the picture quality is not as good. Cable same thing. DAB radio don't even bother. Freeview, don't even get me started, we were promised more choice and better picture quality, total Bull, I have only found one manufacture of boxes that actually work without anything electrical interfering with it and picture quality is unbelievably poor, and apparently set to get even worse. Now to the cause of this rant, DVD recorders. I got one about 6 months ago not a cheep one but one with very good reviews, I recorded loads of stuff and have watched them back with no problems but tonight I tried to watch one on another DVD player, every couple of minuets its ether skips, loses sound or slows down for a split second, tyred another film, same thing, tyred it on daughters DVD player, same thing, tyred another film on both DVD players same thing, tyred it on machine films was recorded on, workers perfectly. tyred pre recorded films on all DVD players no problems. This was never a problem with video it didn't mater what machine it was recorded on or played on it just worked. I am all for new technology but please please why do we have to put up with technology that doesn't work.

I totally agree - the big problem is compression. Now the broadcasters can cram more channels down the same bandwidth, that's all they are interested in.
I suppose though that a digital picture is better than a poor analogue signal - ie a signal with ghosting and multi-path distortion, but to me you can't beat a good analogue signal with any SD Digital signal. HD is another story, some stunning pictures are possible, but even HD is getting reduced data-rates and more compression now. I remember seeing a HD picture in the USA a few years ago that was lousy, far too much compression.

I'm with you on this... everything we were told about seems vastly over-rated... I think the consumer is being used as a beta-tester most of the time! pixelated pictures via digital televsion is not what i had in mind when i went "digital"... Analogue had ghosting sure, and missed the wide aspect programming, but the picture was better i feel. Everytime a Chav scooter passes the road nearby the picture on the telly breaks up - this is technology?! You mentioned a freeview box that doesn't suffere from picture break-up, which one is it? Keep up the fight! |

The only freeview boxes I have any success with are made by Sagem.
Regarding the DVD problem I have found that the ones I recorded work fine if played on a PC so possibly its the DVD players, but what do I replace them with?

I agree.I think that they keep coming out with new stuff,ie HD is to try to make us buy new equipment. For instance I have had a philips 28'' tv for about 10 years. It's perfect. So what do they do,they bring out letter box jobs. That did'nt work so now they are filming most programs in slot format. It will not work.I am not throwing a good telly away just to keep thier sales up.They only keep changing things because. We don' buy new equipment fast enough.Sod em . I will buy a new telly when this packs up and not before.
rant over. ray ![]()

Looks like I'm going to have to replace the DVD player in the bedroom by trial and error to see if I can find one that works with the recorded disc's. I must have a chat with my neighbour, he,s borrowed loads of my disc's I wonder if hes had any problems? My daughter isn't to pleased ether. It means she has to watch DVDs on her PC so she cant watch a film, text and use MSN at the same time ![]()

Well I think I'm going to take everything in the house that has anything to do with digital and have a huge bonfire with it. I hate it I hate it I hate it.
I went and got a new DVD player today made by Philip's cant remember the model but it said if you have it this machine will play it. Oh no it wouldn't, it skipped and froze more that the cheep alba players I have. Can anyone please explain why when I record a disk it wont play on a DVD player but will play on the DVD recorder and on a PC before I lose the last bit of sanity I have. I tried asking on Digital spy but just got told to learn how to spell properly, they are complete b@st@rd on there.
