Question Italian TV - how to get free and encypted channels?

Hi everyone

I'm new to this site - I would appreciate some assistance with this!

I've finally given in to the nagging from the Italian girlfriend and agreed to get a setup for Italian TV. I've bought a 60cm dish and a Technomate 5200 USB and plan to set it up some time over the next couple of days.

I understand that I should point the dish at Hotbird 13E to get the majority of free Italian channels - is this right and is there a list of channels available for that satellite/direction?

One thing that does concern me slightly is that I've heard that the free channels are scrambled occasionally (eg. for football). Is there a way to 'unscramble' these broadcasts without having a Sky Italia viewing card?

Thanks in advance!

You will only be able to open the encrypted stuff if the encryption system has been compromised and if the keys are public

Most of the italian stuff is on Hotbird but there is a lot more out there

This should help you find all the italian programming thats FTA atm

The Rai channels tensd to scramble for sport & movies. Their encryption is secure so you would need to subscribe.

Many of the Sky Italia channels are also secure scrambled.

Be warned Sky Italia subs are not cheap if you have to buy in the uk

The list of free TV from Italy below might also be helpful; but it does seem that Hotbird (13e) is the best satellite for Italian TV (granted there are a few channels elsewhere as well).
