Default Starview PVR - any good?

Hi all,

Happy New Year, go easy on me I'm new to this forum !

Quick couple of questions if you don't mind.

I'm looking to replace my existing Pace 4000 box that gives me all the channels with a PVR, the only one I can seem to find is the Starview PVR, has anyone used this? Any good?

Also I've read on the forum that the encrytion system may soon change which will stop these boxes from working, do you think I should hold on for a while before I buy a PVR?

Thanks for any advice.
Adam

I have a Starview PVR and to me its the best box on the market, its a bit difficult to set up? as all channel info is in Data files and not bin files like the Digivox or The box 2 but once working its a great box records perfect.
The only thing I changed was the loop cable that came with it I replaced with a ready made cable cost me about £4s, as the loop cable that came with it did not work that good.

I hope this helps you.

Ronnie.

You can record using the EPG how far ahead the EPG is I am unsure but u can record weekly programs using the setup menu. Hope this helps.

The EPG is 1 day but if you let it scan on a channel from your local frequency it can get 3 days

there is a new firmware being tested for the PVR to hopefully stop people getting random blank recordings and improve EPG

It's ok - But if you are used to Sky+ it isn't quite as good. I have had a couple of problems with mine

1) I have a weekly recording set up to tape WWE Raw on Sky Sports 3 at 2am every Tues. This recording will fail, UNLESS I turn my box to that channel before going to bed.

2) Recording one channel whilst watching another can be a bit hit and miss as well as it doesn't seem to handle the 2 feeds very well, sometimes blocking out one of the channels.

3) The PVR takes an age to update!

Of course all these probs could be down to the fact that I have a 4 way splitter attached so I can run the Virgin box in one room and my starview in another and my broadband!! Maybe I am runningtoo much off of it and strangling the bandwidth?

At the end of the day though, I'm not paying out 50+ quid a month for Sky+ Multiroom and all the channels now that I have cable and my Starview so I can't really grumble!
