Forgive the dumb question. But what exactly does a CAM do?
I have 2 CI slots in my receiver for CAMS, but before I go out and buy, what do they do? If I bought an original Viaccess one for example, does it unlock Viaccess broadcasts? I understand I need to pop a card in the CAM for the subscription packages, but are there some channels which will be unlocked simply by just inserting the CAM? I'm learning as I go along ![]() Cheers in advance. Mike |

There are currently 3 multi cams that will unlock channels.
The Dragon, also known as the T-Rex, the Diablo and the Giga. The Diablo is currently the best cam, because of superior support, but you will need a Cas programmer to load it. If you please post back with details of your receiver, your set up, and which satellites you can receive, we should be able to supply more useful information. |

I have a Fortec Star PASSION HD receiver with 2 x CI slots. I have it connected to a 88cm Triax dish & Diseqc motor. I am currently hooked upto Hotbird (13.0E), Astra (19.2E), Astra 2A (28.2E), Sirius (5.0E), Eurobird 9 and Thor (1.0W). I can get others west of Thor but my limit is 15.0W because of my dish placement! Is there anyone who could programme it with the CAS programmer (for a fee of course), then reprogramme it when needed? ~ I don't have the patience for technical stuff like that...LOL. Thanks again. |

Looks too complex to me! ![]() Prefer it if someone else does it. How long does a programmed cam last before the 'plug is pulled' and you have to reprogramme? I'm watching quite enough as it is, enjoying all the free stuff. With a foreign wife and able to speak/understand a couple of languages myself. I'm in my element!!! ![]() |

Programming a Diablo, or Dragon cam, with the Cas3 is simple. Once you've done itr the first time you'll be amazed how easy it is.
Both cams seem compatible with your receiver so it's up to you which ytou choose, ieither. |
