Default FTA on SKY?

Hello I am a newbie to Sky always had N*L in past, but we have just moved house and a SKY dish was already installed and a friend gave us an old Panasonic Digi box.
To get the FTA I am presuming that a viewing card is needed, But being totally satellite thick I am hoping that someone can confirm this, also would a card bought from e-bay that is being sold as working, work with any box or are they registered to each specific box.

Thank you for your help(hopefully)

Terry

Sorry been a complete plank if I would have taken time to look a bit further down the menus I would have seen the correct thread and got the answers.

HI

You only need a card to get Channel 4/5 5 US and 5 Life, and the correct regional BBC/itv. If you are going to get a card then call sky and get one from them its only £20. I speak from experience that if you get one off ebay and there is any problem you are stuck as sky wont do anything because the card was not issued to you by them.

If you just want the fta channels (BBC ITV shopping, radio religious etc) then no card is required - although the BBC1 & ITV1 regions may be wrong.

A ftv card (freesatfromsky) (20 quid) will be correctly regionalised, and give you C4 C5 5 Life 5US Setanta Sports News and any time shift channels for the above.

A ftv card bought from ebay is technically buying stolen property (as the cards remain the propeerty of sky at all times) and will be incorrectly regionalised unless you buy a local one.

Spend thne 20 quid and the card will be replaced free of charge if there is a card swapout within the first 3 years.
