Newbie pace 4001

I am a newbie just trying to re enable my pace DI 4001N box. I got this box about 2 years ago but it stopped working a couple of times and the last time (probably a year and a bit ago) I couldn’t find anyone to reprogram the card. So it went into a box not to be seen till now. It has a Fun card 4 in it.

I have now found this wonderful site and want to see if I can get this working again. I have some questions

1. I don’t seem to be able to get into the Engineering menu. I hold the UP and down buttons on the box, switch the box on. The TV screen show “Sorry to interrupt your viewing – were currently updating your service please don’t switch off your box. The LED screen starts with pace and switches to tune. Do I have to have the coax cable plugged in to get to the Engineering menu?
2. I was hoping to get the Box key from the funcard I have. Is this the best place?
3. How do you get the IRD

Your box has been off for a while mate, leave it on without the card and let it update, once you get the vm menu, then turn power off from back and reboot holding up and down buttons, then it let you into the eng menu.

If the box is still stuck on tune, then you need to read up on one of threads called something like pace box 4001 stuck on tune..

There is a program called Atmega IRD + BK Reader in the download section, read you card details from the above program, then follow the funcard tut to get your card working..

Let it tune and update and reset net id, some 4001 dont like going into eng menu keep hold of up and down buttons till diag appears on box display. you can either convert first ten numbers of nagra serial code in eng menu to hex, or look on top of scart cover inside box for ird. you can get bk from funcard , it probably only needs the flash updating to chaos v3, save the exteep first, then erase card, then load exteep and chaos flash, you dont need an inteep, then write it,done.

Thanks guys. I now have a box thats tuned. I havent put the dead card in yet and now have a selection of freeview channels.

Can i put the dead card in to stop the annoying "no card inserted message" until i get the card working?

Is there a way to confim from the engineering menu that talkback is not working?
Also in the Engineering menu there is a status monitor. What is error code 167 Lost 00 Block

I'm sure ill post back for some more help later.

You can put card in but might still get a box come up, you can see in settings , technical stuff, dhcp status should say reverse path is off.

Ok. I saved my exteep off the card. I have then tried to read the exteep with IRD + BK Reader.

It presents the ird and the box key as the same letter repeated lots of times

example =
aaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I guess this is not correct. I didnt really want to continue to overwite the car until i had the BK. Any further guidance

try putting it back in exteep on card with chaos v3 flash, then see if it works, it looks like its corrupted but its worth a try, if not it looks like you will have to use led sim card, you can get one from lincsats nick nack shop.

Thanks Red - I have flashed the card with the chaos v3 and the exteep but no luck. I will have a hunt for a led simm. Lincksat is out of em at the mo.

Please help me.

I have joined VM and have a spare box given by a friend. Its a Pace 4001, I think its quite old. Please can someone advise how I can connect this so that im able to receive all channels at no cost. Im aware of the two way split that I need to do from my broadband connection.

I would really appreciate the step by step on how to do this.
