Red face Sound Distortion Help Needed

Hi Dreamers,

after trying out some upgrades to my 500 I have suddenly got distorted audio, I am quite sure that I have messed up when transferring satankeys & upgrade via DCC as everything was fine before this manouvre. I have tried reset to manufacture and reflashing with the 4.02maxvar via dreamuplan but with no success. Is there a file in the box software that I can view & mofify / delete or any other way to resolve this issue ?
All assistance appreciated as always.

In expert setup make sure Fast zapping is unchecked.

I hope that helps.

How are you connecting the sound? If it is AC3 via optical, the plug may be loose.

Thanks for the responses, I really do not know how this happened but I suspect I have messed up the file settings when I was trying to install key updater, anyway it's got worse now and the box has gone " dead " on me. Can't get connection vis DCC or Dreamup lan because I can't set up communications or anything else so a null modem cable is on the shopping list today ! Can you just advise, does a flash with dreamup via the cable completely clear any cock ups I may have made and restore default settings ? thanks

Yes a flash via null modem serial cable completely restores a good image. I strongly recommend not using the lan option in Dreamup because there are many failures.

I am not sure about the 500, because I dont have one, but I think you can do a restore which sometimes helps by unplugging and holding the on off button on the box whilst reconnecting the power supply. Might be worth a try.

There is a reset to factory default in the settings menu. Try this 1st.

Thanks for both advices, can't do factory reset as box is playing " dead " with no output, I will try your idea Jim cos I can't get the correct cable here until Friday, along with the Dreambox problems I have a metre of snow and -21c to cope with so am not travelling too far for anything. Will keep you informed as always.

Just a thought mike4727, but I have seen on some forums that if you unplug the serial cable when the power is on it is possible to blow the internals and make a nice house brick. In view of no output I hope you haven't bricked it.

Smile Re: Sound Distortion Help Needed

Hi again,

just an update for those interested, when I eventually laid my hands on a DB9 cable the Dreamup worked like a dream !
Box now retored to former glory with latest Gemini MaxVar and Satankeys, I am now much more confident but will be more careful with file transfers in future.
I would like to try out other cams & keys so can anyone recommend various options available for 500s ?
