No change in picture quality.

DMM didn't want HDMI because they were too greedy to pay the HDCP license so they went for DVI instead and let the different image teams to crack the HDCP revoke keys if they are needed.

Sky HD using HDCP?

so what you mean is you can only view HD channels that do not use HDCP?

i thought somebody ment DHCP which is ti do with networking, and now i understand.

Sky UK on the sky+ box is a hdmi connection i think, so if sky use HDCP i will not be able to view the HD channels, is this right or will they do both?

thanks

EDIT

a mates told me sky jusr use sky HD, no HDMI

The Sky HD boxes use HDMI connection, and I can only assume that content is protected with HDCP.

Dream going DVI could be a very clever move. It could also be a stupid move.

Who cares. You have to have one. Even if they are silly money.

why might it be a clever move?

the only way i can see it being clever is if dream know you can get converters for HDMI and that you can still use surround sound because the dream will have audio out anyways,

This means even though the DVI doesn't support audio (so i'm told), you can still get the same quallity for the video but they don't have to pay the licence fee.

If that is the case, another concern will be will the audio and video then be in sync if you have to use audio out for the surround sound, instead of via the TV?

We shall find out

I am not paying 800 euro for it anyway so it's just stupid to be honest.

It's not worth more than the Kathrein UFS910 which cost under 300 euro and has better hardware.

maybe but you have to remember the DM8000 is everything in one box.

you not just paying for a standard satellite receiver which decrypts channels, you also paying for the 360gb harddrive, the built in dvd recorder and the 2 x smart card reader slots + the 2CI slots built in, aswell as the bult in wifi.

But i will buy one when the price comes down to a few hundred british pounds.

The Kathrein is OK for the money, but it's a toy compared to the DM8000 IMO.

It doesn't even have a card slot or DiSEqC 1.2.

It is second on my list, but a long way back.

well i shall see, you can get a 7025 off ebay for around £300 these days so i'll wait until i see an 8000 at a simular value.

Again, no daubt clones models will come out which i hate because they try flogging it off as the real thing.

I may stretch to £400 later this year....depending on how badly i want it at the time lol, that will be very badly then.

So it looks like this thing will work perfectly on a HD TV then? with or without the HDCP? Unfortunetly over here in the UK we only have a few HD channels. the companies won't pay the price for more, plus the HD people are being very stingy atm about what can be HD and what cannot be.

Always a spanner in the works.

But anyways , i cannot wait until somebody gives me a good review about it, telling me how much i'm missing out lol
