For a start, HDMI cable wont do anything to improve the quality of the SD channels. You might as well connect them via scart.

If you are not getting problems with the HD picture via HDMI then buying a new cable wont make any difference. There is a lot of rubbish talked about spending lots of money on 'expensive' HDMI cables. Only spend it if you are getting interference on the picture.

Having said all that just Google for the cables and you will see lots of gold plated versions ready to take your money. The biggest problem with pictures on Plasma and LCD panels is that they have not been set up correctly or they are an inferior model.

SD material will tend to look inferior on LCD/Plasma when compared to CRT. When you consider how the signal needs to be processed in order to display it at the TVs native resolution, this is hardly surprising. Upgrading your HDMI cable will make little difference to your picture quality. Calibrating your TV correctly is the best step you can take. Take it out of dynamic mode and choose movie or cinema mode. Then reduce the retina burning picture settings to more sensible levels.

AS an earlier poster pointed out, if the BBC HD channel displays correctly then you have no problem with the HDMI cable. Have the same issue - it is quite simply that you're watching significantly inferior video on a TV designed for far superior feed.
I also remembver reading that there is no significant difference between the very expensive and the cheaper HDMI cables to warrant such a huge price difference.
