Default Mix n' match?

I'm a total newbie but, I have an Optex motorized system working well in France which replaced my earlier Metronic 441812 analogue box and dish. My UK home already has a Sky dish and my question is: can the Sky dish be linked with the Metronic unit to receive from, say Hotbird or Eurobird satellites? In fact, is the Metronic unit usable in the UK at all?

Hi, yes the Sky dish can be used to pick up other satellites (the stronger ones). Hotbird(13E), Astra1(19E), Astra?(23.5E), Turksat(42E) are definites that I have picked up myself.Although there may be breakup with rain. There may be others.

Unfortunately the Metronic is an analogue receiver as you stated, and there are not many satellites that transmit Analogue any more. Astra(19E) does, in German, and 5W does in French. Not sure if a minidish is big enough for 5W though. Check on LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite

Presumably also, the output of the box is secam, so a telly that can cope with that is also needed.

A minidish is PLENTY big enough for 5W analogue!

Many thanks. I have PAL/Secam TV and will try the combination of Sky mini dish and analogue box. Paul FW
