Default Best STB to learn with?

Hi again

After doing a few hours of reading, I think i'm going to have a go with some stb, i've been looking at The pace di4001, which i think will be good for my area.

So would this be a good box to start with? and would it need much doing with it to get working correctly?

I am a complete novice, but everyone starts somewhere

Thanks

Providing your in pure ntl the 4001 is great for first box, sets own net id and the led sim card is easier to use than the jtag, you can just programme a fun card without all the aggro of opening a rom card.

Thanks Red,

Although not much of what you made sense to me atm, it all sounds promising, is there a way to find out if i am in a pure ntl area? Also can anyobe point me in the right direction of a tut for that box?

Theres a list of areas and net ids in eurovox section, find out for definate before you buy a box, 4001 only works in pure ntl.

After a good nights sleep and a fresher head, I've started reading up on what i'll need in order to do a Pace dI4001 box, Could you guys just confirm i'm heading in the right direction

So items I need.....

-Pace STB (with or without original card?)
-Led Simm (any recomendations on the best one?)
-Card reader/writer (was looking at a funcard Programmer for about £9)
-A Funcard 4

does all that sound about right?

Ok so i managed to get a di4001 off a friend which already has a fun4 with both the bk and ird written down

So i'm half way there now, only problem now is it's stuck in tune mode.

If read all the tutorials and tried may of there fixes, including removing a cap to increase voltage to one of the tuners.

None of which as worked, although the box may be fried, I still hold out a little hope it may just be me, one prob I have is i ain't sure of the right frequency, i've tried both 571 and 643 (teesside area) the 571 I found on the web as been listed for the teesside area, the 643 code I got off my sammy box.

So could I be doing something wrong? Can anyone offer any pointers to me?

looking through the engineers menu shows me several errors, these are:

-009 Can't tune to home freq >99
-019 Can't lock to last tuned>99
-021 NIT table frequency scan failed

So i'm thinking it's me getting something wrong?

Thanks for any help people can give
