How to Jtag a dead SL65 B1 6 pin

You're probably reading this because you've downloaded some new firmware to your receiver and now it won't work, plus the RS232 port is refusing to work so you can't reload working firmware.

But hang on, before you get your soldering iron out, are you sure the RS232 isn't working?

It's been pointed out to me that the process for powering on your box when upgrading FW differs depending on which firmware is already installed on the box, specifically the bootloader section.

The normal process is: The box is completely powered off and the RS232 cable is connected. You fire up the firmware loading tool, select the new .bin or .abs file, select the upload method and then click Next. You will see the message "Testing serial port status". Then, depending on the already installed firmware, you need to either:

1. Power on the box at the mains switch and do nothing with the remote control.

or

2. Power on the box at the mains switch and press the red power button on the remote control to bring it out of standby.

or

3. There my even be firmwares which like to have the box powered up and off standby before the Next button is clicked.

If the RS232 is working you will within a few seconds see "Finished" and the firmware will start loading. You should try all of the above variations before concluding that your RS232 port is dead. Very occasionally I find a reboot of the PC can help, but that's usually clutching at straws.

If the RS232 is indeed deceased, then you need to bring it back to life with a Jtag cable and some DOS software. Everything you need in terms of instructions and software is contained in the two files attached. It's not too difficult, just a bit time-consuming.
