Hi, When I try to Jtag the dos window opens and then closes straight away. Nothing really happens.
I've followed the instructions on the caution truman 1.3.82 post (the cause of the problem) but still no joy. On occasions when it has got slightly further but just hangs i've noticed it hasn't detected the chip type. (F64) Is there any advice? |

Hi,
I am competing with similar problems. I will explain briefly what I am competing with: Made a Jtag. Installed the driver for the parallel port. I checked and it is running properly. When I run probe.bat via a dos window, it runs, but it doesn't recognise the chip. The result with receiver switched on or off is exactly the same, so I think there is no communication. I am using windows 2000, maybe this is the proble (parallel port not working with the software). I will check with a scope to see if there are some signal changes on the parallel port. |

I'm using XP, the cable has been checked over and over so I know it's not that.
The instructions posted say you can enter the commands in DOS manually. I know what chip it is but not sure what exactly to type in DOS. When you type : C:\jtag>flaps -flash:bootloader /skipdetect /instrlen:5 /alienable /fc:64 /fast /xeloa /byte I get not recognised command. PS - All the box does now in normal mode (TV) is switch on and off as the auto scart picks it up and switches AV mode. Last edited by larder.1; 12-01-08 at 10:43 AM. |

@Larder.1
How long is your cable? Try to keep it down to 15cm. Ensure that your PC's parallel port is enabled in the BIOS. A lot of people use USB printers these days and disable the parallel port in BIOS and forget about it. Which folder is the Flaps software in? If C:\Jtag, then Click Start>Run>c:\jtag\Flaps Do you see a DOS CMD window saying "FLAPS MIPS EJTAG utility ..... waiting 5 seconds" then a whole load of data flashes up the window and the window closes? If so, try Start>Run>c:\jtag\Flaps -probeonly and turn your receiver on at the mains. You should see a whole load of information listed in the DOS window, including the ID of your flash chip. Look it up in the table in the "How to" document and make sure it tallies with the chip you can see on the board. If everything agrees, there is no need to use the /fc:xx /byte switches - you can simply use flashbootloader.bat as it is included in the Flaps directory. Make sure JP1 is jumpered 1&2 for this, and put it back to 2&3 for RS232 testing. Sol Last edited by solunauk; 12-01-08 at 11:45 AM. |

Hello,
Like I said earlier, I was going to measure signals on the parallel port with my scope. This was OK. So it has nothing to do with windows2000 or XP. Then I decided to shorten my cable from 1m to about 30 cm. Result: Everything works fine, my receivers is already working again. Good luck too, I hope it will help you further. |

I will try to shirten my cable. It's about 60cm long.
At some stage i got the flashbootloader.bat to give some errors. I get error on read. I can attach the log if thats any good. I am using pin 1/2. I'm using the flaps u posted a day ago. Is it 1.4? i get the 5 second bit then runs through quickly and dissapers or get read error. |

Larder,
If you say that it is working with a lot of errors, something like it is doing something and then it doesn't succeed and it gives errors, it is quit possible that shorten the cable will help you. Good luck |
