Default Problem with picture quality

Evening all,

I have recentley purchased a Panasonic PX70 37inch. I did some research before hand and everything pointed towards it being a very good machine for that price bracket. Since i have had mine tho i have been very dissapointed with the picture quality, i spend alot of time watching mainly sport and mainly football but the picture and players often appear pixalated and blurry. I am running just normal sky+. I am sure it has something to do with what i'm doing rather than the actual tv.

Does any1 have any tips to improve my picture, i only have a very cheap scart lead from the sky to the tv will this have any bearing on the quality? are there any settings i need to chsange on the tv?

i accept that i am not running anything HD through it so it will never be amazing but my old 15year old Sony tv had a much better picture.

Cheers

Gazza

The Panasonic PX70 is LCD, isn't it?

In which case, LCD TV's have a reputation for being unable to cover fast movements without being blurry, I'm afraid.

If it's any consoldation Plasma TV's have their own set of problems...

I know what you mean about your old TV having a better picture - I was thinking the same thing about my 27" Matsui compared to a 42" LG Plasma, that I eventually returned.

My 32" samsung went back the next day because the picture was terrible compared to the old phillips 28"CRT. replaced it with a 32" JVC CRT in the end. HD TV's are very over rated.

The PX70 is plasma and I am amazed that you are getting a poor picture on SD footy.

Have you set the output of the sky+ box correctly?
Have you set the Panny input correctly?
What is the crt set like on the same scart connection?

I think you need to play with all the settings because my 42PX70 gives a picture every bit as good as my Sony Trintron CRT.

LCD sets do suffer from picture smear on footy and similar. Pixellating is usually related to poor signal quality but if it is ok on the crt set then your settings are wrong.

Is the panel installed high above eye level?

You can get reflections back from the front glass which look like a second picture. I dont get this looking at mine from the side but it may happen in the vertical plane.

Picture in picture. Sorry I couldn't resist that. Put it down to my juvenile sense of humour.

I sounds as if for some reason you are getting the tv receiver interfering with the sky picture. How is your sky box connected to your TV?
