Default Sky line rental

Just found out that if you have SKY TV and use their phone service you can now rent your phone line from them. It saves you between 50p and £1 and they have some very good options available such as free caller ID etc. But the best thing ever is no more bloody BT

It is still the same old BT line so if you had trouble with the BT line you will still have it.

As for your signature Madrat, we would all lose our licences.

I believe in a LLU area, Sky were considering taking over the line from BT - in this case there would be no line rental to pay to BT, Sky would handle the lot.

There may be a new switch involved in the exchange, but it would certainly be the same copper cable.

As for the sig - I would love to be able to drive at 56Mph on the heavily congested Lincolnshire roads

Hi, I have got to tell you, A few months ago about 14 to be exact I signed up for the sky package, Broadband and Tel line I had so much pain and crap that I am back with BT, I have gone from BT twice, once to NTL (Lasted less than 3 month) and to Sky, BT are Bad but better than the others, I now pay BT for the line but my calls all go through "Euphony" all my calls in England are free and calls to many other countries, I Have a home in greece and when I call Greece it's Free that costs me £5 a month so my TOTAL calls including Tel Rental a month come to less than £17, Am I a Happy Chappie, I Sure am.

By the way it is a 100% FACT that ALL the phone lines EXCEPT cable are Bt lines

Actually not - in Hull almost all phone lines belong to Kingston communications. I dare say there are some business lines in other area's that are not BT either.

I suppose technically all LLU lines aren't BT any more.

Hi Yes I stand corrected on Hull I had forgotten about that and as You say I am sure there are other places that have a local telephone service, I had a large company in derbyshire until about four months ago and I have now retired, we were put in a position of having to have new lines and everything fitted on a new building we had to purchase, I had many confrontations with BT so I tried to move away from them, I contacted other companies and they all told me the same I would need to have BT install the lines and then they would take over the calls etc, That may be because of the area we were in I dont know But I took that as par for the course.

AIUI, an LLU line is still a BT line, that connects to non-BT equipment at the telephone exchange.

It's the same physical cable but my understanding is that ownership passes to the new phone company when you LLU - you certainly don't pay line rental to BT any more.
