Default Higher hardware quality in U.S PS3?

Ì heard they EU version of the PS3 got cheaper quality hardware than the U.S model, is that correct?

It's actually true, can't remember the actual parts name.....basically the graphics brain chip. Anyway the mercans / japs got higher spec ones that allowed them to be 100% back compatible with ALL the old PS2 games.
I guess it was a cost implication but when the PS3 roll-out came to Europe they included a cheaper component to keep profit margins up.
The problem was this created a large list of non backwards compatible games on reease date.
I remember being well ****ed off about it at the time.... software upgrades have cured most of the compatability issues but there are still some PS2 games that can't be played on the PS3 and many that don't play as good on the PS3.

Feck'in typical if you ask me!
