I have high hopes for Windows 7 (Vienna), it's set to be much more impressive than Vista, with some major under-the-hood improvements.

XP SP3 sounds good too, but people must understand that the move to Vista is going to happen, Vista isn't as bad as people make out - it's just something new.

Hopefully 7 will be out sooner rather than later.

Protests from several major manufacturers forced Microshaft to reintroduce XP for parts of their range as companies are not upgrading to the new O/S as fast as had been hoped. Mainly because older computers (2-3 years old) happily running XP arent up to Vista because of all the ridiculous whistles & bells built into it.

Hopefully Vienna will do away with the worst aspects of Vista and bring back all the compatibility built into the well known XP O/S

My network has over 300 computers in it, and I have refused point blank to be the guinea pig for the region on any vista upgrade (we are the test site for virtually everything else the region does.) My contacts at RM (who manufacture the machines) tell me even if there was a programme to upgrade our computers & servers arent up to it - and they are only 18 months old.

Bythe time we come to upgrade maybe Vista will be long forgotten

I think people need to give Microsoft a break on the whole compatibility issue.

What has to be realised is that Windows is expected to run on (with no exageration) hundreds of billions of different possible combinations of computer hardware.

A lot of software problems are caused because there are written to 'take advantage' of a bug in Windows. Then, when Microsoft go and fix that bug, there's nothing to 'take advantage' of, leaving the software not working.

The programmers at Microsoft aren't idiots, they've just got one hell of a task on their plates. I hope that Windows 7 will be a mainly under-the-hood improvement, and the whole 'MinWin' prospect sounds promising.

If they wanted to create a really good OS, they'd drop Windows, switch to full time development of the Singularity Project, and build in a Win32 emulator of some sort. Microsoft Research Singularity Project

But that's not going to happen any time soon. Although, saying that, Apple did a similar thing when going from OS9 to OSX, so maybe Microsoft could pull it off?

Hi, don't take this the wrong way, but your question seems to be a bit silly. MS will not be supporting XP for one moment longer than they have to, so there will be no war, between Vista and XP. Sorry but I do not see the point in your question.

Very best regards Wez
