I currently have a landline (NTL-now Virgin) with broadband and a Tesco Internet phone connected by USB. I only occasionally use the internet phone to speak to friends in OZ. No problems there. I also have a wireless router installed, which is used for my laptop.
I am curently in the process of starting my own business (Electrician) and really need a 2nd phone number, which i do have with the Internet phone. The trouble is the internet phone only works when the PC is switched on and when someone is logged on. Also it isn't mobile/cordless. What i would like to have is 2 or more cordless/mobile phones that are capable of recieving from both the internet phone number and the NTL landline number (not neccessarily both at the same time time but at least on the same phone), and be able to tell which service a call is coming from. I would also like to be able to have the internet phone available without the pc on. Also i would like to switch the Internet phone line over to answer machine at certain times of the day, but still receive calls on the landline. I realise this is a pretty tall order - but is it possible to have this with the current Tesco phone, it is unlikely that i will make many calls on the Voip phone, just receive them. Your thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be much appreciated. Shamus |

Ditch the tesco phone and get a proper VoIP provider and SIP hardware. You can get routers which support SIP or standalone units.
I find the best solution for me is to have separate phones for VoIP and landline (to have different answerphones on each). You can get service from voip.co.uk or sipgate.co.uk or many others. The Netgear TA612 is a good simple router - have a look on the sipgate site. I can sell you one for slightly less than sipgate ![]() The Fritz.box is an advanced unit which can do quite a lot including 10 VoIP lines. There are many other devices as well, just need a provider that supports the SIP protocol.

I've got one of these Shamus
dualphone.net/DUALphone_3088_for_Skype-789.aspx & it works a treat hooked up to my wireless router for my Skype connection as well as my Virgin landline. Read up on it, I got mine on Ebuyer for £80 but they're only £75 now & highly recommended ![]() The base unit plugs into your router via rj45 like a PC but the PC doesn't need to be on as the base gets the IP address from the router & transmits the signal to the handset. Ok it takes up a port on the router but you can get a switch for £10 these days if your wireless gear gets outta hand at home or office (like mine). Good luck with the business

Look at getting a siemens dect ip phone ie. siemens 450 460 475 dect ip phone and get registered with a company like sipgate.
The phone is cordless and offer a landline and voip phone all in one. To make a lindline call enter number and release the call button to make the call. To make a voip enter the number to call and hold the call button for 3 seconds and it make a voip call You can added slave handsets to up to 6 price £60 I use the 460ip model its great You only have to leave your router on all the time and not you computer puddy ps make sure the model as ip after the model number |
