Default Help..........Im even more confused.

Hi, another dummy asking questions, I am tired of paying Sky for 10 year old repeats.
I thought I new what I wanted until I started reading posts on these forums, now ime even more confused.
I think I want a combo, sat receiver and freeview, pvr ready, so I can add a hdd later or would it be better to buy a sat receiver that's pvr ready and a seperate freeview.
I would like to receive eurosport if possible, movies (not porn) good stuff, history, fishing, national geographic, that sort of stuff.
I really don't know what I can expect to receive on a satellite receiver.

I don't want to spend too much to start, but what I do buy I would like to be able to add to, to make up a good system.
Really what I am asking is, what is a good budget receiver/combo etc, and what can I expect to receive if I spend about £250 - £300

Regards john

Hi, Just a quicky reply.

Vantage do a twin (terrestrial/satellite) receiver, not sure about PVR, but worth a look.

Or you may wish to consider a Dreambox, the 7025 does all three I believe.

Robbo.

Golden Interstar are launching a combo PVR by USB receiver very soon, RRP will be £99.95 and has 2 x CI slots, sat and Freeview tuner. Release date to be confirmed but hopefully Feb 08.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I don't know one make from another, is the Golden Interstar a good buy, or is it good bye £££ and buy something else soon.
To be honest I am thinking of buying a Technomate 5400 and a budget freeview, but I am on this forum for advice. what can I expect to pay for a HDD to connect to the technomate.

Well hope the GI is good! As I am the UK distributor, however the Technomate 5400 is a cool machine and you can either buy a USB memory stick for around £25 for 4GB or £50 for a 160GB, problem is that you cannot record one channel and watch another unless you get a receiver with a built in HDD and twin tuners.

Well on the budget you would be better off buying the 5400+ (or even 5200 if you dont need CI or card reader)and a seperate freview box. If you wish to spend a little more you might as well get the TM6900 which gives you HD as well as freeview on the same box . I think one of our fellow forumers sells them ( above my post)
