I apologise for the wordiness of this, I hope you are patient...
problem 1: I recently inherited a Nokia Dbox2. After some fiddling I found out the file system was full. problem 2: The recommendation in these forums is to flash the image. I had a go at flashing by following the how-to-fix-upgrade-dbox2 thread for installing cableferret. I really struggled with the IFA utility. "boot net" just did not work. I tried with a crossover cable and then with my home network - I got a console over the serial connection but "boot net" just wasn't happening. I read that media sensing could be a problem. Do you think that could be stopping my PC's NIC from getting on with its job? Many thanks for all the work put into these forums. It's really helped me so far. +--------------------+ |BMon V1,0 mID 01 | |feID 7a gtxID 0b | |fpID 5a dsID 01-| |b3.d3.ce.05.00.00-6a| |HWrev X5 SWrev 0.81| |B/Ex/F1(MB) 32/00/08| |------||||||--------| |--------------------| +--------------------+ |

You could try the IFA version 3 beta - seems to work better with some problematic PC's

Hi lincsat, thanks for that.
I checked a few settings and had another go with no more success. * network card set itself to 10Mb * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\DisableDHCPMediaSense was set to 1 * I checked the crossover cable with a network cable tester. The lights lit up in the right order. 1 -> 3 2 -> 6 3 -> 1 4 -> 4 5 -> 5 6 -> 2 7 -> 7 8 -> 8 Next I can try forcing 10Mb full duplex (instead of relying on the auto-detect, you never know). I can't get to the DL area yet. I found "DBoxII Boot Manager" 3.2.0.354 from April 2002 on the feldtech site. I can't find the beta version of IFA anywhere. Thanks for the tip |

If you're having problems, You need to force the NIC to 10Mb half duplex and set the IP to something like 192.168.100.10 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 - also make sure all A/V and Firewall's are off and disable any ICE service that may be running. I found the IFA V3 beta worked perfectly on my difficult PC

I have the app now. I haven't used it yet. I gave up on IFA v2 and tried TFTP.
problem 3: I couldn't figure out TFTP. console showed => protect off 10020000 107fffff; .................................................. ............. done Un-Protected 63 sectors => tftpboot 10020000 /flashimage.img Using SCC ETHERNET device TFTP from server 192.168.0.22; our IP address is 192.168.0.23 Filename '/flashimage.img'. Load address: 0x10020000 Loading: T T T T T T T T T T Retry count exceeded; starting again I loaded the cableferret image with ftp. I copied to /tmp and used sportster tools to flash image (my dbox2 arrived with sportster v2 from 2005). This got me into more trouble. problem 4: The cableferret image turned out to be corrupt. Reboot after loading cableferret image failed with a CRC error. I later checked the zip archive I downloaded. It was broken. ### FS (jffs2) loading 'vmlinuz' to 0x100000 ... Verifying Checksum ... Bad Data CRC => I found a commando v9.25 image to load. Since I couldn't get IFA to work I had to use the null modem method to load the backup image. This worked fine. Once that was on I could set IP values and get to the dbox2 on the network again. It's coming together slowly and painfully. I am exploring a new world of flash images, IFA, u-boot, bootp and TFTP. I am gaining a grip on new jargon like sportster, neutrino and jffs. No pain, no gain! Thanks for your help so far. It' reassuring when staring at an error message at midnight to remember that help is out there. |

i can't find a description of the chorus command. I think it's a u-boot command.
Does the dbox2 boot up in stages? Something loads u-boot, u-boot loads the kernel? |
