Hi, one of the calculators in here will tell you the required elevation for 16e
Dish Setup - Angle Calculators I quite like satlex.de and dishpointer.com, but take your pick. and by the way, you sky dish points at 28, so it actually has to move west by about 12 degrees, so you should be fine. Robbo |

Hi
My dish elevation based on my long/lat is 26.5, what tool would i need to calculate this during installation? Ive found a spot on a south facing wall of my utility room and its about 8 foot high. Assuming I can get 16e, (im going to buy a compass later to check my lines of sight from the rear of the house), I would then be able to get from around 16e all the way round to 179w. I will have to do a bit of research on what satellites the other sport channels are on. |

Ok
Ive found a site for my dish, this is the only wall it can go on facing south. The wall is about 8 ft high, so the dish centre will be the same height. Ive took a pic and marked due south and roughly 40 west. Are those trees and houses going to be a problem or are they far enough away? Here it is: ![]() its taken from about 6 ft high. Can you advise me if this is suitable locatuion for my dish, with clear views to the satellites? Thanks Last edited by clubfoot; 26-01-08 at 09:48 AM. |

That must be 40E not 40W.
Other than that it looks OK, I think those trees are plenty far enough away. An inclinometer can be used to check for sure. I use a spirit level with an adjustable bubble for a rough guide. Robbo ![]() |

The elevation depends on your location, for me it is about 29 degrees. The calculators will give you an accurate figure.
My trained eye I'm just guessing. I always rely on my trusty spririt level to make sure. You may have to raise the height a little if there is a problem, but it doesn't look like there will be. |

Hi Robbo,
on satsig.net ive found my long/lat, but the dish elevation changes for each satellite. What elevation do i use for a motorised setup, nearest to south, thor? Thanks for your help |

Yes, that is correct. As you move further away from your nearest due south satellite the elevation gets lower. The top of the arc is near your closest due south satellite.
To check the dish positioning, you have to consider the section of the arc you are interested in. 45 degrees either side of true south isn't too bad a start. I can only get 42E to 30W, but I'm happy with that. When actually setting the system up, you do it on your nearest due south satellite, which is 1W for me, i.e the top of the arc roughly. |

Hi, yet again Robbo.
What size dish would i need? The smaller the better but if needs must i will just have to get what would work. Will a 80cm be ok? I've read that would be ok for 16.e, but what about turksat 42e? Thanks |
