Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times, but I had a look around and could not find somethings. Firstly, I'm after a complete satellite system so I can recieve Digitalb to watch the football. My Location is Bangor North Wales. Secondly, before I go on, is it legal for private home use?? What direction do I need to point the dish, same as the sky dishes? Can I use it on a patio mount, instaed of having it on the wall? Any help greatly appreciated Thanks |

Hello
Yes its fine for you to buy a card and view in your home but not if it was to be used in a Pub etc. You will need at least a 1 meter dish pointing at Eutelsat W2 situated 16 degrees east, the Sky satellite is at 28.2 east so more west and up. You can get patio mounts I would suggest concreting a pole into the ground and then attaching the dish. Also I would suggest a motorised system as you will be limited to a few dozen channels on W2, where as with a motorised dish a few thousend!. Also with the right receiver and software (patch) open up several scrambled TV packages on other satellites that will show sport, films and adult programming. A good 1 meter motorised system will cost around £200 for everything. I hope this helps?

Hi clubfoot, Welcome to the forum.
Try southernsatellite, I am sure he would be able to sort you with a system. Alternatively you could put together your own. You will need a receiver that can take a Conax card, the Technomate TM5300+ or 5400CI+ would do the job for example. Dish wise a 90cm or 1m would be best. The dish would need pointing at 16E. A sky dish points at 28.2E so not the same direction, but reasonably close. One of the online calculators such as SatLex Digital :: Home or Satellite Dish Pointer / Alignment Calculator with Google Maps would give you the exact figures. Robbo ![]() |

Well, I don't know if you would be able to install yourself, but many of us have, lots of beginners, myself included.
The ideal position is on a wall that faces south for a motorised system, this would give you the best chance to get most of the arc. Some elementary geometry is certainly useful, nothing more than GCSE level at worst. Most don't bother at all. To install a single fixed dish is very easy. I am sure most fairly competent DIYers could manage that. A motorised dish, is a tad more difficult, but not impossible for begiiners with a bit of coaching and reading up. Robbo |

Hi Robbo
All im really after is the saturday football so I might aswell just get the fixed dish. Could you recommend a good reciever for what I need, i understand I need it to be conax compatable?? Also what will I need for the instalation, apart from the obvious drill etc. A compass maybe? Sorry if that sounds stupid, new to all this ![]() If the system is patched will this free up any other channels on eutelsat? Thanks again for your help, would be lost without your input ![]() |

Hi
There is not much on Eutlesat of much interest and the only channels you can get is the either the free ones or DigitALB with a card. To make the most of the receiver such as a Technomate 5400 (conax card reader built in) you would need to motorise it so that when you patch it you will open packages on other sats including some footy! A compass is a must and also a meter would help.

What direction does the wall face?
You can still do it, it depends which way exactly. By the way, any sales chat with SS has been moved here:- sales chat clubfoot Robbo ![]() |

Firstly sorry about the sales questions
![]() My sky dish is positioned at a right angle from straight on, so it wont go anymore east to get 16e, or it would be facing in to my wall. I have north, west and east facing walls, end terraced house, south facing is attached to next door!! I was thinking of installing a fixed dish so I would just recieve 16e for the football on my utility room at the back of the house, but it would only be 6ft off the ground but would have a clear line of site of the sky at 16e, depending on what amount of elevation i would need, how do i calculate this, r is it a fixed number? Would that work, 6ft off the ground?? Sorry for all the questions, just want to be 100% sure before i buy ![]() Thanks |
