lets say i want to power more than 4 (HDDs, CD/DVD drives) in my computer but my power supply only has 4 power slots/plugs for them....is there anyway for me to hook up another PSU to use for them or would i have to get a new bigger/better PSU?

Just install a second psu (assuming the case has room for a second psu) If you try and "split" the existing power connectors you risk overstressing the psu and it failing. And believe me they ALWAYS go at the most inconvenient time!
If the case doesnt allow a second psu to be fitted then you need to buy a higher rated psu with the appropriate number of connectors.

If you want to get a spliiter, they look like this (thats just an example). Check that the PSU can supply enough power for the extra drives though. Might be better to get a new PSU though as suggested. Depends on how much extra power the drives will be pulling and how close to your existing PSU's limit you are already.

Get yourself a higger wattage PSU. e.g. 700W will power anything. I have one, got 2 dvd drives, 3 HD's Watercooling, 8800GTX Graphics card(requires 200w) all my PCI slots are taken as well as 4 120mm fans, and the dispay reads 240w's when i play games, on idle its 130w.

I would not recommend running devices that (cumulatively) are near the max total of wattage "stated" on the power supply. IMHO think manufacturs tend to fudge little bit on output.

Can a pc run more than 4 drives at one time? there is only 2 connections on a standard ide cable. you would have to use sata drives as well.
