Default Ipod Vs MP3

My son wants a Ipod, but i have not got a clue about them, one of my main questions is, can you transfer tracks from CD on to an Ipod? or can you just download and have to pay?

Also is an MP3 player the same as an Ipod?

Thanks

An IPOD is basically a well featured MP3 player, you can sync with ITunes software on your PC and use that to download tracks to the IPOD. I find the sound quality and battery life to be better on an IPOD than my previous MP3 player.

ive got an ipod and so has my son they are a lovely toy and the new nano will do video too. itunes is easy software to use imho. i cant comment on battery life as its my 1st mp3 player but it does get hammered on video playback also there is more accesories for the ipods it seems. i've got the 80gb video ipod with 8 films and 1500 mp3's on it and i think i have only used 15%

I have iPod 4GB and I can do everything with that, and 3 new games are so good.
