Hi Lads,
Need your help please. Not got my 7025 yet, to be here on Monday or Tuesday. I have never been able to set up a network that allows me to connect to the net, on my 500s, using a direct crossover cable. I have no trouble with my Lan using the direct crossover cable, it is just that I cannot connect to the net. I don't know if I need to put a url into the box. or if it comes with the image. I am currently using the latest Gemini image on my 500s. As you will appreciate I would like to be able to use all the features of the new box when it arrives, so any suggestions will be very much appreciated and welcome. Even though I will not have the new box till next week, I would like to try and set up network on the 500s, by way of an experiment and to gain the experience I will need for the 7025. I know that I have posted a reply to a post that is way out of date and the poster, who had managed to set up a network like I want to, has not posted for ages. I am sure that some of you admins will help me out here and delete the post/reply that is least important. Sorry for any confusion, but I would really like to get this matter sorted out before my new box arrives. Very best regards Wez

For what it's worth, I never managed to get my Dreambox (7025) to connect to the Internet using a crossover cable either - and like you, I never had any problem achieving a connection to the PC (which allowed successful FTP-ing).
I realise I'm telling you what you already know, but the best thing to do is to have the Dreambox on your LAN via a hub. My own setup has a wired (ethernet) connection between hub (BTHomeHub) and Dreambox, and a wireless connection between hub and PC. I also allow the hub to assign the Dreambox its IP address using DHCP - but the assignment is a static one in order to keep the IP address constant. This approach has been very successful - and, as you know (once again), you won't really get the best out of your 7025 without a connection to the Internet, e.g. for Internet radio, news feeds, convenient downloading of updates and plugins, etc., and so on, and so on (so I'm not sure dial-up is going to do it for you). Hi Davei,
Many thanks for your reply. I have a hub here, but need another crossover cable for it, which I shall get on Monday. I have to go to town on Monday so I wil get what I need there. I know that dial up is not ideal, but it is all I can get here, it is like the dark ages here in Ireland. We have a regulator that says everyone should have a speed of at least 28Mbps, but we can only get 3.2 Mbps on the line here and that is everybody on this line. When you conmplain to them they just tell you that it has to do with the quality of the lines, as if we dd not know that. I will try the hub when I get the other crossover cable. Thanks again and best wishes. Very best regards Wez
