Default LCD or PLASMA

I know this has probably been asked a million and one times, but here goes anyway.

I am buying my first HD tv, and am torn between the Toshiba 37X3030D LCD, or the Panasonic 37 Viera PLASMA.

Can anone help or advise me. I live in the UK

Yes it has.

Go and look for yourself and make sure you see both operating on a SD sky picture. Preferably showing football or fast moving sport. They are generally all good on HD but fall down on SD.

LCD's traditionally have issues with movement, but Plasma's can have problems with lipsync - ie, picture and sound are out of sync.

Best to ensure you can have a personal demonstration if you can - but if you do have problems, John Lewis has a great reputation for customer care so it's well worth considering buying from there.

I have some lipsync problems with my Samsung F86 LCD but I suspect this could be down to the 'value' 5m HDMI cable I am using

A HDMI 1.3 compliant cable can, apparently, sort this out but by all accounts this is the only practicable reason to upgrade to this latest standard of cable

I am in a similar situation to happdays.

The question I have, rather than start a new thread, is....

Am I expecting too much from the LCD / Plasma range? I will not go to Sky HD until next year (earliest) so opearte with normal SD. From various comments I hear quality nearly as good as CRT.

I have a CRT which is 32" but not wide screen. I would like to go to 40" but concerned about flicker, blur on sport.

Proof of the pudding is demonstration in the shop I know.

Are you desperate to change? If not then I would wait until next year, or whenever you go to Sly HD, before changing. CRT is still probably the best for SD TV, and the longer you wait, the less you'll pay and the better the TV's will get

I only got my LCD due to us decorating the living room, which allowed us to stick an LCD above where the fire used to be. Pleasantly surprised by the picture quality though
