If you are talking numbers let me point out that of the 23 members with more than 50 posts over half of them are from a former satellite only forum which merged with this one late last year. There was no download secton on that one, which says something interesting about the relevant membership activity on the 2 former forums.

Members wanting access to the d/l section - thank your lucky stars it only has a 50 post limit on it - we were considering 100, and its future is under review..... Like robbo my personal opinion is that it should be removed totally, but the final decision is down to the forum owner

Fifty? Almost there
On the more serious note ,I`m here because I like the forum, and I`m really greatfull for all the help I received here trying to get me going with the first receiver I bought. I actually bought my first receiver because I was here Is it hard to make 50 post? If someone only gets here to find answers to their questions and as soon as gets them goes somwhere else then it is. As for me you can/should increase or remove the download section, it wont put me off in any way. Like it here and thats it.

Thats the point most people who come on here to post dont want the downloads and the ones that do now have to make up 50 posts of drivel so they can get what they want i have seen people being told that the post's they are typing wont be counted as there obviously try to bump there count up. Also i seem to remember that posts in the introduce your self thread wont count so a nice little hello that would introduce people to each other is decided against because if they post else where they get the post counted.
I enjoy this forum i have asked a few questions but most things are already covered so with a little search there is no need to post but time and time you see the line "This has probably been asked a thousand times but how do you"blah blah and why are they posting its because they are post bumping to get into the mistical downloads section lol instead of having a quick look around.

We delete anything thats obvious post clocking

Cant understand the attraction of the mythical d/l area myself - I guess its like something forbidden - you want it. Well to be honest its mostly full of cr&p anyway.

I can't speak for the cable sections, but in the satellite sections we don't mind people asking questions that are already covered. It is not just about finding out stuff, but also about having a bit of a chat at the same time sometimes. If no-one asked questions or posted, it would be a very quiet forum indeed. In fact, since being on Satellite Help, now techwatch, I can't thing of a single instance where someone has had a go when someone asks a question already covered. It happened a lot by the way, without the downloads section. Some people just like to talk to other likeminded people in the hobby.

I know but there are only so many questions people can ask as a newbie there are not many questions i will be able to reply to to give people help and i'm sure ther are many more like me out there who would love to contribute if they could. But having been moaned at for posting a funny ebay item i wont bother next time unless it fits the sub board exactly
And if you are now starting to take items of the forum for legal issues then i feel all electrical info in the DIY board should be removed as 99% of all electrical work is now legaly to be done by a part p registered electrician these people are giving people advise that could end up in someone dying

Certainly in the sat section no-one minds the slightest if a question is asked again. Very often its a single gentle push in the right direction solves a problem and gets the poster up and running.

On the old SatHelp forum it was policy that beginners to the hobby could ask the simple questions beginners need to ask with the guarantee that no-one would have a go at them for asking the basic questions that get derided on some forums. Several of the folk we helped get started became valuable members of the forum and happily imparted their knowledge to others later - and thats what forums are all about.

I started as a newbie to satellite only a very short while ago. But being on the forum I have learnt so much in a short space of time. You help out when you can, as you knwledge gradually increases. And don't forget, we are all just ordinary people, with good moods and bad moods, so very occasionally you might get the odd 'off' remark, but not too many I hope.

As for the electrical, there is nothing illegal about giving bad advice, no-one is paying, I am sure there was a warning in there somewhere that it was for DIY and members should get professional advice if they are not sure.

So if a simple warning is ok to let some one post somthing that done wrong could burn the house down with all inside
why cant a simple warning as used on other sites be added to the download section and open it up to all
warning as seen on another site"Note: Viewing Pay TV without valid subscription is illegal!
All the files available here are kept for educational purpose only!"

Putting it simply Mr. Branson and his cronies wouldn't see it that way and we wouldn't have a forum anymore.

Also if Mr Murdoch and Co. got involved we'd all be f**ked

In a nutshell really that one
