But thats what I'm saying this other forum runs with this warning and as far as i remember ( i did only look in there once the d/l section only linked to another site with the downloads on)

Its strange how people are worried about losing a forum but dont worry about duff advice being given that could kill somebody.

and to get back to the point i dont want the d/l section full stop i just dont like the idea of a two level forum with the select few now being able to get something others can not.

Well, that is the way it is I'm afraid. Whilst the majority want it and the administator agrees, it will stay.
And as AS says, there's nothing of value in there anyway.

There is no 'select' about it! All members can access it when they have established themselves a little.

I mean, some forums ask for a donation, or VIP membership, here it is a level playing field for everyone.

and by the way, I have just realised, I have made 35 posts today, so 50 isn't really a big number is it.

Most of the other cable forums dont have a downloads section, they use live links, thats what is good about this forum, you cant run a cable section without having access to the tuts and files, but the forum is kept free of any illegal stuff. I think 50 posts is too high myself and what are newbies going to post ?, most of it will get removed as post clocking or rubbish, and they will go elsewhere.
This was one of the most popular sites for cable and didnt treat newbies like idiots like some other sites, and has always been a friendly site, since the merger with sat help this has changed and theres a few who have voiced their dislike of the cable section and obviously want downloads scrapped and the cable section too, i think they do a great job in the sat section and obviously know their stuff, they dont need the downloads for satellites, but the cable section does.

I know this is going to upset a few people and probably put a few noses out of joint but to be honest these are my views and if you don't like them thats your problem

Firstly there was not one person on Satellite help that thought this merger with Techwatch was a good idea or thought that it should have ever happened, myself included. Infact we lost quite a few good mods that refused point blank to have anything to do with the merger.

Fortunately almost everybody from SH had that much respect for its creator BGonastick that we all went along with it and got on with it. Brian has done his best to integrate us all but it will take some time to get back to anything near normal

Its been obvious from day one that not everything has gone as smoothly as it should have as we all have different ideas of how things should be run, we at SH like to keep things legal and above board which means no downloads, no keys, patches etc etc. We just used to point people in the right direction of where to find them which worked fine
Theres no reason why that couldn't work with the cable section

There is always going to be some friction between the two sides which is never going to go away, we are always going to bitch at each other, thats just the way it is. Either way you look at it i enjoy bitching which isn't going to happen if the forum gets closed down and believe me it will if we carry on with downloads and mac swaps

There are things happening in the background which we have very little control over, just remember that

I rather suspect that this was the biggest merger between 2 forums that TW has every experienced - its far easier to integrate small forums into an operation.. SH was a completely different kettle of worms. For starters it was approximately the same size as TW, and already had a big and active membership and a well establish team of mods and admins (some very outspoken.. )

It was always going to be a difficult integration job, and lets be honest here its not always gone smoothly. We have lost several mods from both sides of the fence, and theres a good few of the old SH regular members I havent seen around for ages.

However we need to keep looking to the future and keep on imprioving the forum.

I agree with you 100% that we need to continue to improve the forum, hopefully oneday we can reach a compromise that we will all agree to

thats a good measured response, however i personally think the 50 post limit is crap, as ppl have posted it can be reached in lounge and joke section, perhaps im being paranoid but it seems like the sat boys wants to beat the cable guys with a big stick, lording it a bit (sorry if this offends) but as the download link is to an outside forum dont see what the legal implications could be? totally agree some ppl do get their post count up, get what they want and then fook off, but some ppl do stay and help others, do the sat boys agree with that? surely u guys have helped ppl in ur sat section and when they get up and running they also disappear never to be seen again until a prob arises?
rant over perhaps if we stay off each others section might help? i do hope we can all bury our differences because site is very informative, sat section is absolutely full of great information for the beginner, all that stops me is the cost lads.

This has nothing to do with us keeping out of each others sections, i have helped out on cable a few times as i'm sure some of the cable guys have helped out on the sat side, its nothing to do with that whatsoever.

This is all about keeping the site here

As with the legal implications of the download site it all depends on who owns it. If our illustrius leader Brian owns that aswell it will be construed by the authorities as the same thing as Techwatch

I think this subject needs to be addressed in Private as it has obviously caused a stir

I'll have to have a word with the other mods on this one me thinks

But you dont need to spend huge amounts of money. All my kit was second hand scrounged for 2 years after I started in the hobby. You would be surprised how much redundant kit is stashed away in peoples garages and available if you ask around.

My first receiver was a battered old analogue box from my parents - and the dish was from them too, so I saved it from going to landfill and got into the hobby with zero cost. (The dish is still in use for our Sky Digital service today)

You can (just about) play with old sky digiboxes if nothing else is available - and the older ones are coming to the end of their lives and are being replaced and scrapped as well.

A sfor staying out of each others sections - how will we ever integrate the site - all that would do is breed suspicion even further!
