No that would block all traffic on tcp port 39750 so your bittorent client wont work.

This is the command line entry you would need.

add drop tcp from any to me 39750 tcpflags rst

Hi Technosteve,

I've got a ddwrt router, is it possible for you to give me some instructions please? I'm paying for a 2mbit line by VM. But since its shared by my family even normal browsing triggers the traffic shaping during peak hours.

Thanx for the info Technosteve just tried it on my router , already been capped tonight though will download loads tomorrow and see if it works , wondering if there is something that can be done to stop being capped when downloading from newsgroups ??? if i added another rule for the port i use in my newsgroup client would this have the same effect on newsgroup downloads as your info has in bit torrent files ????

any help would be appreciated.

TIA

I think you'll find that they do, if you go over a certain limit during peak hours they will slow down your connection

Before you start calling someone a liar i suggest you get your facts right first

By the way nice first post

Thats called a traffic cap and has nothing to do with Sandvine, it occurs at the CMTS, I would know since I did make an application to already get around that!
I have no idea why he thinks sandvine is doing the capping because its not. Its to do with the config files that you get from the TFTP.

Edit : I don't see the point in PMing me, I know the rules and I have done nothing wrong.

Hihi

Yeah, traffic shaping is per protocol limiting, they don't do that at all

The cap is something else entirely, maybe people should use the right terms

Just so you know

****://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html

check that out for what they are doing.

And so far tonight Technosteves guides seem to be working , i have been uploading for 3 hours now at full wack on a 20Mb connection so i must have hit the 1.25Gb upload limit , and no cap yet...

dunno wot they are actually using to implement the 'Traffic Shaping' but so far this seems to be working for me on my bit torrent , i would like to get round it on my newsgroup downloads if any one has any info on how to do this ..
