You know I think you all might be over complicating the problem a little bit. If you set your torrent client to use RC4 encryption on all incoming and outward connections you can mask your p2p use and not trigger the speed cap in the first place. Vuze and Utorrent will let you do this very easily.

(if am i wrong feel free to tell me to STFU)

Hi Steve.... first time poster. Thanks for all the info supplied. It is very much appreciated.

I am running a windows environment with a NTL250 cable modem connected to a WNR834B Netgear wireless cable router.

From what I understand from the above is that if you have a ntl 250 cable modem, the block would be initiated there. If you use this modem, would it be possible to use your suggestions ? I am not sure whether the ntl 250 has a CLI / would be configurable ?

Failing that then, do you know whether it is possible to use a different cable modem with VM that will accept the recommended changes ?

yes but you need to use a modified firmware on the ntl 250 otherwise you cant login using telnet as this is disabled in the firmware. the p option is also disabled with the latest VM firmware and requires a jtag connection to change this firmware.

so the answer on an unmodified ntl 250 is no you cant get into the modem.

Hi, first off apologies for a humongous bump, but this is the only thread of it's kind I could find.

Could anyone give me a little walk through of what I should do in order to get around VM's cacky traffic shaping? I'm on their 20MB package and am using Vista Ultimate 64-bit, with a Linksys WRT54GSV4 and HyperWRT 2.1b1 firmware.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Ambit E08C013.00 cable modem and a Netgear WGR614 router and I'm using a mac with 0SX 10.4.11.

This being the case would it be possible to use the system quoted below?

click on Block Services

Click OK

enforcing should be set to all day or 4pm - 12pm if that is your ISP's peak time.

that should be all you need. you may have a save config changes dialog come up in which case click ok and router should reboot .
* change 6883 to your torrent listen port or 6883 - 6893 for a ten port range.

This normally will only be of benefit if its the only modem/router in the circuit. Thats why you really need commandline to your house ISP router.
This might not accept the tcpflag /tcpflags command as its part of the TCP Protocol.
I have tried setting this up but when I select OK it tells me that it is an invalid IP address, so I have just selected the All IP addresses option. Not sure if I have done it correctly as my speed is still capped at the moment.

Fingers crossed.

Well whatever I tried didn't work. I expect that it is due to the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing.

Shame as the speed cap (or whatever you want to call it) is giving me constant sad face.

Also it seems I missed the boat with this thread, and I haven't found any other sites offering help with this, O well, back to Google I go.
