Hi
I've checked my lat/lon with various sites and it is as follows Lat. 53.191 Lon. -4.086 On one of the sites it also told me 29.1 for dish elevation for a motorised system. I have just read the manual for my motor and it says to use 37 on the inclineometer on it, which i presume is their conversion. unless i have misunderstood the manual instructions...... In the manual it then says the declineation angle for the dish bracket should be 22.4. Which one do i set the the dish angle to, 29.1 or 22.4? Thanks |

Hi,
From the information you have provided it is impossible to know what the declination setting on the dish should be.22.9 sounds a bit low to be honest, but without reading the manual I couldn't say. There are two elevation settings to be made. 1. The up/down swivel of the motor 2 The up/down swivel of the dish itself. For the motor, it will either be marked 'elevation' or 'latitude' ( or both) if latitude, set it to your latitude, if elevation set it to 90-latitude. For the dish itself, there will be a table in your motor manual, you could follow that. Personally I don't do either. ![]() One method is to send the motor to your nearest due south (once mounted) and measure the angle of the motor stub from vertical. Look up the elevation of you nearest due south from dishpointer or satlex.de and add this figure to the motor stub angle. Then using the markings on the back of the dish set it to this angle. But beware, the markings on the back of the dish can sometimes be way off. Another way is to just set the dish so the dish face looks roughly vertical, and then adjust it for maximum signal quality/strength. I normally use this method. Robbo ![]()

37degrees is right for 53north latitude so set it to 53 on the motor if there is a latitude scale or 37degrees
with the dish you need to just find the best elevation as the scales on dishes aren't 100% accurate once all that is set and installed you will need to align dish to 5west, if your longitude is correct Atlantic bird 5west is very strong signal so you should easily find that

Is there a specific fta channel on atlantic bird 5w that i could use as a reference to tweak the dish in order to get best singal?
Once i've found the best signal on 5w can i then tighten everything up and this will be my dish and motor set up complete? Thanks guys |

any of the channels on 5west should be fine to use like france 2 on 11591 V or 12543 H globecast feed
then once bolts are tight then to go to the ends of the arc and then tweak the dish more if needed
