I think there are better CAMs than that now, such as the Diablo or TRex. ( I have not got a CI slot on my receiver, so I don't know much more than that)

What size dish have you got, and what satellites can you pick up?

Have you got a Sky card? As it is encrypted at the moment.

I know the diablo and Trex will read the card, don't know about the matrix. Mickha is our CAM expert.

Hi sheedy,
Welcome to the forum. I am not that sure of how it is done, but you can update that cam to a Matrix Reborn, I think I heard it somewhere. I am sure there is someone here who can tell you how to do it. The Matrix Reborn has still got pretty good support.

I would suggest that you google Matrix Cam and see what you get. I should also mention that you will need a Cas Interface to program the cam.

I have not knowledge of your box so I am afraid I cannot help you there. Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Very best regards Wez

Hi sheddy,
You can go for a new cam, but you must remember that you will also need a Cas Interface II or III to update the cam. I am not that sure what the going price of the latest Matrix Cam, the reborn, is, but I should think that you would not want to pay any more than £35 for one. As for the Cas Interface, it might set you back around £55/60.

If you are any way handy with computers and using them, then I would advise you to get a Dreambox 500s. This box will open anything that is open at the moment and it has the benefit that you do not need cams or anything else, but it should also be remembered that, as with anything in our hobby, things can and will change. One thing about the dreambox is, as I said, there is no need of cams, so you are not going to go and spend a small fortune on a cam, that is likely to go out of date, because of no support. There will always be support for the Dreambox and if you shop around you might well get a 500s for around £159 or so. There is also another thing that you must be aware of and that is that there are some cheap imports, from China, of the Dreambox and they are not to be entertained in any circumstances. If money is not a consideration then you might want to go for the Dreambox 7025, which has twin tuners and can be fitted with a HDD to record to, there are offers of them with HDDs fitted for you also. I have just got one and they are very good.

At least you now have a couple of choices to consider. Hope I have been of some help and not confused you too much. If you are thinking of really getting into the hobby again then I would say that you should seriously consider the Dreambox option.

Very best regards Wwez
