Why would Sky be worried? Freesat is an alternative to Freeview not pay TV. Sky continues to grow and has a record number of subscribers and churn is falling.

Freesat is not offering what Sky offer. Where are the movie channels? Where's the Premiership football? Where's the cricket? Where's The Ryder Cup? Where's Lost, Prison Break, 24 etc. etc. And all of those in HD.

There are a lot of people who don't want to watch all that, but just want the FTA stuff. Freesat from the BBC will eat into Sky's marketing channels, because Sky try to make everyone think that Satellite TV = Sky, so people go for one of the Sky freesat deals, and Sky hope that that they will subscribe. If people buy the proper Freesat, this introduction route will be taken away.

Why don't they just watch normal TV then or get Freeview? The number of people who live outside the range of Freeview - who are Freesat's target market is relatively small.

That's what I thought. So if only the epg is from Eurobird why does this guy claim the (HD only?) service will work on a smaller dish than before?

Unless the HD service will come from Eurobird with its wider footprint??

EUREKA:- I guess I could ask him

Normal TV, what all of five channels?

I can't get Freeview, But I was under the impression that the channel line-up is much smaller than either Freesats

Derek. questions.

1.What is normal TV

2.Outside the range of freeview you mention, well locally where I live within the County of Wrexham, which boasts the largest town in North Wales and the third largest conabation in Wales(North East Wales).
The local transmitter for the four channels,Moel Y Parc (BBC1Wales,BBC 2 Wales,HTV and S4C which translated is channel four Wales) plus its DTT
can only be picked up by 5% of this big conabation, around 70% can only recieve Winter Hill,25% only the Wrekin. At the moment if this 95% want Welsh TV the only choice is Satellite, the Sky Roadshow, known locally as the Sky Rougue Show, is in town every month and the blag from the reps
is.
A. When analogue shuts down, only Sky will show the Welsh Channels and the subs start at £15 a month, never a word about freesat from Sky or other options. A few friends have fallen for this con and honestly think they have to pay Sky to watch Welsh FTA Channels.Vast amounts of course do not fall for this con.

B. When the local stores stock freesat, with the strap line no subscription ever, many will then be tempted and the lie if it as to be sat,it as to be Sky
will be gone forever.

On speaking to people in my work, many tell me all they want are the local channels and do not wish to subscribe, I have nothing against pay tv,if you want it, but until now only the likes of us on forums know about FTA recievers.

Many subscribe to Sky and are amazed to learn S4C is FTA,when they have shelled out a monthly sub just to watch it.

One of the reasons I was banned from DS was because I was so Anti Sky,due to untruths I revealed, which does not go down well with DS due to it getting funding from Sky.

The market place here for freesat is vast, and those who want to can remain watching Granada or Central and gain the Welsh Channels

Bob

It just shows what influence this company has. Rupie probably personnally signed your death warrant.

There's are loads and loads of non-Sky dross FTA. However there are a few 'good' channels that Freeview gets that Freesat currently won't receive. C4, C4 HD, E4, More 4, Five, Sky Sports News, Sky Three.

The C4 and Five channels will be available later in the year.

There were many people, including traders and installers who misread the original reports and assumed because 'Eurobird' was mentioned everything would come from there.

BBC HD is already broadcasting from 2D. C4 HD is currently on 2A south, but is encrypted by Sky. When it goes FTA it will have to change to a tighter beam.

Thers an awful lot of folk not interested in sports / movies etc. Of the things you mention there, no one of them interests me in the slightest.

As for HD - well Ive got all my equipment cross wired with rf cables and the picture quality is perfectly adequate for me. Theres only 1 scart in my entire equipment collection - thats the home theater system, but only because it doesnt have an rf out on it!

The movie channels show nothing but poor quality dross, cricket and golf are boring to watch, my football team is in the lower divisions, and Im not going to waste my life watching overpaid prima donnas prancing round a over manicured cabbage patch kicking a pigs bladder .

Lost is sh!te - I watched half of episode 1 season 1 and switched off when the "beautiful people" emerged from the plane crash with little more than rufffled hair and a couple of scratches . Where were the dismembered torsos you would get in a real crash?? And the blood??

24 should have finished at the end of series 1 - an interesting idea, but strung out way too long in subsequent series. They could have donre the show in a couple of 1 hour episodes
