What do you want to know about it?

Basically its the same free to air channels using the same satellites as the freesatfromsky channels, but using a different settop box, and a different epg system. If you have an fta box you already have Freesat, but without the fancy 7 day epg.

Its unlikely there will be any more European channels on it simply because there are relatively few European dishes pointing at 28E

What's the story with the Freesat EPG? I take it that it's not of the Media Highway variety that all our boxes can use. But might there be a chance that plugins could be developed for it (unlike the proprietary Sky EPG)?

I guess we'll soon find out.

I heard some disturbing news, apparently for the first 6 months only the multiples will be able to sell Freesat, not the independents, it's claimed that only the multiples have access to a consistent installation base - are they seriously trusting Sky to install all the freesat systems?

are you telling me that we won't be able to self-install? I want to dump my Skybox and substitute a Freesat box which gives HD channels without subscription. It should be a switch out switch in, no fuss, two minute job.

Anyone have an inside track on release date and price?

On the BBC news website, it was reported that the cost of the equipment was going to be in the region of £180.
One assumes that this price includes installation based on the information available on the freesat website.

I also read somehwere, that there would be a reduced price for the box alone.

The rumours are that the latest date for launch will be early summer, with CH4 on board.

that's good news about Ch4 if it's right. I thought I'd read somewhere that Sky had got a shareholding now, so assumed that'd put the kibosh on that. Installation monopoly isn't such good news.
