Puzzling. Try doing a complete JTAG flash with a known working firmware and cancel it after it gets to about 12% - that brought the RS232 back for me once after a bootloader flash failed to do so.

For info on SmartMX firmware see the thread "Edision/Smart EMU coming?" in this section.

Hello again,

I have been using Truman_EMU_1.3.82 lately but it's become unstable. It works fine for a while but then it stops. I reloaded it (JTAG) but it keeps doing the same thing. Works fine for about 1/2 hour and then... dead. I can only watch FTA channels.

I tried smart mx04 but I have problems watching the channels it comes with. Also, the signal level from the LNB is extremely low and blind scan fails. I've not touched the dish and I checked all connections. Everything's fine. Is it possible that I nearly have a silver door stopper? Or, perhaps, I should try the older version, i.e., smart mx03? Or buy another box?

Thanks

MX03 is not an older version - it's merely a different model of box made by Smart. The Masterpiece version of this FW works perfectly on my SL65/12 B1 whereas MX04/Tyran firmware shows no signal. MX03 is better than Truman IMHO.

Hi,

I'm still in pain.

I've just noticed Maplin are sellind 2 sat "FOR**C S**R" boxes: 40 and45, respectively. Are they any good, i.e., pat***ble? I'm thinking of replacing my 12v S*...*rest (in peace) with one of those. Could you tell me wich I should go for? Thanks

Martor54, no idea about Fortecs. There is a Fortec section here - why not post on that?

Hi, Solaunk,

I've managed to install truman_EMU_1.3.86 for research purposes, of course. As the .abs file I had downloaded on the net had only the satellite info, I used the Ali Editor to keep only the those sat's that I wanted. I edited only 1 program/sat under the respective TP. I did that because, when I wholeflashed the chip before, the box displayed "No program found" and immediately shut down. It would not stay on long enough to allow me to get into the Menu and do a blind scan. This way it worked, though. I changed the .abs file name into 'wholeflash.bin' and then JTAG-ged...

I used Flaps 1.4 to do a custom wholeflash option with a setting other than the program automatically finds (probably closer) for my MX29LV160BBTC-70 chip, i.e., "/fc:43 /byte". I changed the command lines in 'erase.bat' and 'wholeflash.bat', respectively, by adding the options in inverted commas above, preceded by space]. The /fc:43 option is for MX29LV160T, I think, that in the 'flaps.txt' list has TopB and not BotB. Probe.bat would only detect my chip as MXIC... which is a BotB. It is likely it's important, I think, as I noticed the registers for TopB and BotB are ordered differently (mirrored). Also, the .pdf Data Sheet for my chip says TopB (top bootloader) and BotB (bottom bootloader).

Now it works very "nice and smooth".

I hope it's not just a one-off happy outcome and someone in our community of researchers will find this info useful.

Thank you again for all the support I have had so far.
