I have just bricked my silvercrest sl65/12 (camping version, 12v) with Truman 1.3.82. I tried Jtagging with both Flaps_jtag_65b1 and EJTAG_TT_1.0.55_SPI. Flaps did not work at all. With EJTAG_TT the RS232 still not responding. I have noticed the flash code is not in the Flaps list. Any ideas? Thanks.

You say Flaps didn't work - what exactly happened?
Have you tried the command "flaps -probeonly" to see what the program has to say about the flash chip? Have you checked and re-checked the wiring of the Jtag lead with a multimeter? Also the lead should be as short as practicable - preferably as little as 6 to 8 inches. Sol |

Martor,
If you work with the J-tag and flaps, take first next things into account: -You must put the jumper inside the receiver in the other position. -Keep the cable length of your J-tag below 15cm. -You must first install the driver that comes together with flaps to let your parallel port working properly. -First try to indentify your memory chip by running "probe.bat". Probe.bat should give you te correct chip type on your PC screen. Only if this is correct, you can try to go further. See also the thread: Jtag Problem SL65. and How to Jtag a dead SL65 B1 6 pin. This will help you a lot further I think. Good luck. Last edited by dkindt : 29-01-08 at 07:25 PM. |

Hi and thanks both of you, solaunk and dkindt. I did the following:
1. in each case (Flaps and Ejtag_TT) I used a different cable (so I made 2 cables as the DB25 pin connections are different). Cable length ca. 25cm (10 inches) 2. I changed JP1 position as required. 3. I checked continuity with a digital multimeter (ohm meter) in both cables. Ok. 4. I tried probe.bat (Flaps) but the program freezes. Then I typed Flaps.exe within the Flaps folder under DOS and it seems it cannot find something (chip or processor not present, I can't remember exactly) and then there comes a list of commands, followed by parameters, and a list of flash chips that (I think) the program can work on. My flash chip MX 29LV160BBTC-70 is not there. There are others with similar characteristics, though. I tried even /erase:custom but I failed with parameters /window, etc. as I do not know the values for these. Also, I'm not very sure about the syntax in the command line. 5. EJTAG_TT works (cable=25cm) but not well enough. It also requires a Base Address (or something like that, which I do not know). If I leave the default value (BFC00000) it does not work at all. I experimented with AFC00000 and others and eventually I hit it somehow with 1FC00000. I must admit I did not know what I was doing. I was just angry and fed up. This latest value seems to work (I have got image on TV) but RS232 is still dead. And it took ages to finish. With RS232 the upgrade used to take some 9-10 minutes. I will try shortening the cable even further to 15cm. But if there is something else that I do wrong, please do tell me. Thanks. |

It's strange that Flaps freezes with probe.bat. I suspect that either your cable is not working properly (and the fact that your other cable works partially with Ejtag makes that a likely explanation) or giveio.sys is not running (but then Ejtag wouldn't work, either, I don't think).
Try shortening the cable further, solder the wires to the Jtag connector and double check that you have the correct pins (pin 1 should be marked on the circuit board). Check that giveio.sys is running by looking in Device Manager, and try in DOS flaps -probeonly Sol |

Hello Martor,
About EJTAG, I know nothing, so about that I will not be able to help you a lot About flaps, I know something, because I strugled also to get it working. If you work with flaps, and the program freezes, what do you see on your PC screen? Does it freezes just before going back to the c prompt? Or does it freezes immediately? I know if the J-tag cable is unplugged, than the programs waits before it goes back to the C prompt. If your J-tag cable is connected but to long, the program doesn't hangs, but probe.bat is saying that it could not identify your chip. I shortened my cable too something like 30cm (because at this time I didn't know that 15cm is a max. length) and it worked. Working via J-tag is verry slow to download, but it worked. Did you check that the driver of the parallel port, is working properly before starting probe.bat? I had to reboot my PC before the driver wanted to run. Something else, before I forget it. In the J-tag you have to use all 100 Ohm resistors, except 1 that is 33 Ohm. Is that correct? Good luck. Last edited by dkindt : 30-01-08 at 05:29 PM. |

Big thanks for your suggestions. It worked.
I worked better with Ejtag_TT. However, the RS232 is still dead. I tried the original f***ware for the camping system from my******crest.de and still nothing. What am I doing wrong? Is it that I'm using the wrong type of bootloader for the hardware? Thanks again. |

Try erase.bat with flaps. That will clear everything out. Then flash the attached bootloader.
When testing the RS232, start with the box on at the mains but on standby, then start the firmware loader and when it gets to Test Serial Port Status, press the red power button on the remote to bring it out of standby. In fact, try that before you Jtag it again. Sol |

Thanks, solaunk. Unfortunately it did not work. After flaps_jtag... box display a reversed U several seconds after switch-on from mains (not the remote power button). Tried it with the remote but still not good. I'm sorry to be such a bore... Thanks, anyway everybody. I'll resign to upgrading software by jtag.
By the way, has anybody tried smartMX software? |

Hello Martor,
On my silvercr. is the MX software running. For me it works fine, the only thing that is not that good as with truman is the way too search channels. For the rest it is better and much more stable than truman. What about your receiver, did you already succeed to get it back up? Or are you still suffering? |
