Default cabletv and broadband problem

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but Ihave a strange problem happening with my cabletv and broadband.

Basic setup, cable goes to booster, then to splitter for cabletv box and broadband. cabletv box and broadband are standard virginmedia stuff.

Probem is, as soon as I switch on cabletv box, broadband speed takes a nosedive. cbaletv off, broadband speeds up again.

anyone experience anything similar?
any ideas what is causing this? any remedies?

thanks in advance

Check all your connections, it sounds like a bad signal, if ok try another splitter.
Why the booster you shouldnt need one? have you tried it without the booster ?

Yes definately sounds like a signal problem, also have a look at your splitter, is it giving out the same signal to both channels i think it should be 2.5db or 3.5db.

TV and broadband are sent down the same 'channel', where as phone has it's own channel. If you have a weak signal (suggested by your need for a booster), then when you split it and use the TV, the bandwidth is taken up.
Unfortunately, not sure how best to solve that one. Maybe try splitting the cable before the booster and then just have the booster on the signal going to the TV.
As broadband is 'both ways' maybe the booster is interferring with your broadband signal.
