Default Digital and Analogue - Different dishes OR different LNB's??

OK.. lets start this the way everyone else seems too so I will be in good company. I am a Newbie and this is my first post.

I guess I have a question which I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere on this site.

I know that there are DIGITAL and ANALOGUE signals (the latter not being used much anymore) but in regards to Dishes, are they any different?

Is it the DISH, the LNB or the Receiver that makes the decision that we are now using Digital instead of Analogue? OR I suppose.. is it ALL THREE.

Hope this is as clear as Mud ....

Default Re: Digital and Analogue - Different dishes OR different LNB's??

The same dishes can be used.

LNB's may need to nbe replaced though. Old analogue dishes probably have "enhanced lnb's on the (9750 - 11700MHz coverage).

Digital needs "universal lmb's" on the dish (9750 - 12750MHz coverage)

And of course the receivers are not compatible (apart from one or two specialised receivers with both fitted!)

The reason for the switch to digital is spectrum efficiency and cost savings. Around 10 digital channels can be carried in the "space" used by one analogue channel. therefore satellite bandwidth costs for a channel are drastically cut.

By the way - welcome to the forum
